TF2 Blog - Medigun Healing Ramp

The Team Fortress Blog received a new update today. This time, Robin Walker talks about how the medigun's rate of healing works.
The rate of healing actually ramps up based on the amount of time since the heal target was last injured. If it's been greater than 10 seconds since the target was hurt, the heal rate is increased. The amount of increase ramps linearly up to 3 times the base heal rate at 15 seconds since the target was hurt. So if you're healing a target who's been hurt less than 10 seconds ago, you'll only be getting the base heal rate of 24 health a second. If the target was hurt 12.5 seconds ago, you'll be healing at 48 health a second. If the target hasn't been hurt for over 15 seconds, you'll be getting the maximum heal rate of 72 health a second.
Robin continues to explain how the gun originally only had a healing rate of 24 health per second. This idea was scrapped when players didn't find that it to be worthwhile to retreat back to be healed, opting instead to die and respawn with full health in less time.

I love their new blog. I always wondered why sometimes I could heal people really fast. Good info, keep it coming Valve.

Okay, so is the rate dynamic, or do you lock into it for the duration of continuous healing?

For instance... if I want to heal a heavy tanking enemy hits, do I want him to first get some damage, run back, wait 15 seconds, then run up to the front with him so we can maintain a constant 72/second healing rate? Or do I start out with this rate from a fresh spawn, so waiting is pointless? If he gets injured while I'm healing him, does the rate then drop immediately to 24/s or am I locked into that 72/s until I let go of the healing button?

I'm guessing it dynamically drops to 24/s as soon as he takes a hit again, but it wasn't completely clear to me. Either way, interesting information.
