TF2 Update Day - New Maps, Pyro Unlocks, Fixes

The update has just gone live! The update should automatically be applied, but if you're impatient you can always force the update by restarting Steam right now.

Changes? Here they are and there are a number of them.
    • Added 2 community maps: cp_fastlane and ctf_turbine

      Pyro

    • Added alt-fire compression blast to the basic flamethrower

    • Added The Axtinguisher, The Backburner, and The Flare Gun

    • Hadouken taunt now kills people it hits

    • Tuned the flamethrower hit detection to improve detection versus retreating opponents

    • Removed Flamethrower's damage falloff (was falling off to 25% by the end)

      cp_well

    • Added a route from the forward central foyer up to the battlements

    • Redistributed health and ammunition throughout the bases

      ctf_well

    • Added a route from the forward central foyer up to the battlements

    • Removed central building, reduced overall map length

    • Redistributed health and ammunition throughout the bases

      Other Notes

    • Removed Soldier's 40% damage reduction from his own rockets. Does not affect rocket jumps

    • In-game avatar images will now have a badge around them if the player is your friend

    • Fixed bug that allowed players to move around in a reference pose

    • Added custom death icons for unlockable weapons

    • The player join team message now specifies whether the player used the auto team option

    • Payload maps now support four control points per stage

    • Achievement dialog will stay open when you're moving in & out of the game and the main menu

    • Added full Russian localization, with both fonts & speech

    • Returned the "Report a Bug" option to the main menu
    Light 'em up!

-Removed Soldier's 40% damage reduction from his own rockets. Does not affect rocket jumps

am i reading this wrong or does this mean that the soldier can now rocket jump without hurting himself? or does it mean when he shoots an enemy very close to himself he does not receive any damage from his own rocket?

in either case, this has made the soldier much more powerful.

no, it means that if a soldier is shooting at his own feet to kill someone, it will do regular damage to the soldier as well. But if the soldier is in midair it won't happen?

That means soldiers could just jump before they shoot at their own feet to kill someone.

but it still would hit them for 40%, correct?

It was my impression that the "does not affect rocket jumps" simply means that rocket jumps still receive the 40% damage reduction that the soldier has always gotten, but attacks against enemies and/or carelessly fired munitions striking walls will inflict full damage against the soldier. At very close range yeah you can probably do a rocket jump to reduce the damage you take, but that's not a huge exploit considering you'll just be returning a small fraction of hits back to how they've always been up to this point.

Sounds like a mild way to tone down the soldier, as it's been one of the most dominating classes since release. Now, of course, everyone is a Pyro so it'll be a while before we see how this actually affects the balance.

Got this ages ago with the Orange Box and at the start it just crashed every 10 seconds to every 10 minutes. Found out it was AVG disagreeing with Source games in general and bluescreening me half the time I tried to load one.

Wow. This game is a lot of fun when it's behaving! It's a game that has to be played as a team, yet there doesn't seem to be the need for constant voice comms. The game is so intuitive that it all just seems to come together nicely.

As for this update... I can't say I care for it. Although all the people running around as Pyros do make for easy pickings with a heavy-medic combination as I found out earlier

As soon as I stopped playing with Pyro I started having fun. Running backwards still seems to be the ultimate anti-Pyro technique.
