If a patch is available for the game on a console, you get it the next time you start up the game. You're prompted to update the game, it updates and that's all there is to it. The updates are typically held on the hard drive and never need to be redownloaded unless you change your HDD.

What they are talking about is the fact that it takes ages for Microsoft for example to UPLOAD that patch and modifications of the game arent as easy since they are burned on a DVD.
