Team Fortress 2 Medic Update Confirmed for Next Week

While it was only hearsay and bordering on a rumor earlier today, it is now confirmed that the major update for Team Fortress 2 will not arrive until "early next week."

Valve's Robin Walker kindly responded to my inquiry of whether or not the "rumor" of a delay was true, and that the update would not hit until next week.
Yes, it should be out early next week.

    Robin.
Undoubtedly busy, I'd like to thank Mr. Walker for confirming this for us. Expect to see Goldrush and entire teams consisting of Medics starting early next week. The exact day and time are not yet known.

Either way, it's already overshadowed by the release of GTA4.

For those of us who don't like to beat up prostitutes and shoot cops, this is still news, not overshadowed by anything. =P

Wow, I thought I was the only one left! The GTA series never really did it for me, and the hype for GTA 4 is just...eh, not having any effect on me.

The fact that its being praised so much just promotes the idea that violence and sex sell. Kinda sad if you ask me.

Anyways, I'm with you here, bring on the TF2 update!

I'm a 'prude' when it comes to violence. The first 'violent' game I ever encountered as having a chance to play was Quake, and I refused to do so for awhile. Then I saw how fun it was, and I played it a little, and it wasn't that violent.

CS, also, wasn't terribly violent. You could also set your settings so the 'gibs' and stuff weren't too bad.

I kinda think the 'gibs' in TF2 are a little...ew. But again, it's not excessive.

GTA is excessive. And it's more than just random violence...there's real-life plausible purposes behind the violence and more.

The games disgust me. The actual design of the game is well made...if they'd simply choose a different subject material that wasn't...that...it'd probably be even more awesome. But oh well.

As I've said before, I defend the right for adult games to exist, just keep them the heck away from children and definitely don't market to them. That makes me physically ill, that this game gets marketed to children.

Then again, I don't know that it has been for a fact, I've only got Jack Thompson's word on it, so it probably hasn't been. One must consider the source of such information. But even so, the thought of it makes me ill.

^ JT is not a trustworthy source for information on marketing. The only way it's possibly "marketed" to children is if they see the commericials or the billboards. The game is definitely not being marketed for children, however, and is certainly oriented towards adults.

But honestly, it's up to the parents to keep the game out of the hands of the children.

GTA4 is not coming out for the PC, and TF2 is a PC game so.. yeah. There will be no overshadowing. Only TF2 glory.

(psst! GTA2 was the best one of the series.. just saying..)

CS taught me the importance of eliminating terrorists and defusing bombs.

TF2 taught me much about physics. Wow, I didn't know a human head could fly that far when the body was blown to smithereens!

GTA taught me that if I ever committed a heinous crime, cops would be on to me in no time. And if I ever took things too far, the army would be on my ass! eep. Thanks GTA, I'll keep my violence in-game.

Most of the people you kill in the storylines are bad guys anyway. You are almost never forced to kill an innocent bystander. You don't have to follow the storyline, because GTA can teach you the importance of being a paramedic, a firefighter, or a legit hard-working taxi driver! Ah, the many people I've saved and fires I've extinguished!

Jack Thompson's drank too much blood of Jesus. No offence to Jesus though, we're great pals... he once carried me across a beach.

Good post Thortok2000, its nice to see how people think on the other side of the tracks.

They don't market them to children at all. In fact most retailers won't even sell gta4 to someone under 17 (gamestop and ebgames I know for sure since they mentioned that in the reminder phone call).

Also if an underage person is well informed and mature enough to handle it (like most teenagers) then I don't have a problem with them playing, after all it's just a game. I played violent games since I was like 13 and I've never had violent tendencies. Hell, I've never even been in a fight.

If you played any of the GTA games at length you realize there is a whole comical nature to the violence and in fact the whole game is more or less a parody of action and gangster movies.

I never said anything about age. I've said "children" and "adult". Each person turns from one into the other based on their own experiences, which is why it's so hard to pin down a law about it.

Old cultures that had a 'test of manhood' for lack of a better term...we should have that too in some way. Then you could pass it at any age and have all the laws that apply to 'maturity', or you could fail to pass it and suffer the consequences.

It'd definitely increase the maturity of the country if you had to prove your maturity to become an 'adult' in order to drink...drive...see R movies...etc.
You are almost never forced to kill an innocent bystander.
                          (My emphasis.)
You don't have to follow the storyline
                          (Again, my emphasis.)

Nice attempt. Again, I defend the right of the game to exist, I simply don't want it in the hands of children. Whether it's marketed to them or not. I also went back and re-emphasized what Kotae commented on, I have no 'proof' it's been marketed to children, but the thought of it makes me sick.

However, marketed or not, it's definitely winding up in the hands of children anyway. And that just disgusts me.
