Jack Thompson Writes to CEO's Mother

I found this to be quite amusing. It seems as though Jack Thompson isn't satisfied with simply harassing game companies or the uninformed media, he's taken to harassing mothers. Specifically, he's recently shot an email off to Strauss Zelnick's mother. Strauss Zelnick is the current CEO of Take-Two Interactive Software, the distributor of Grand Theft Auto titles.

The pornography and violence that your son trafficks in is the kind of stuff that most mothers would be ashamed to see their son putting into the hands of other mothers' children, but, hey, your son Strauss has recently assured the world that he is "a Boy Scout, everybody knows that." I'd love to see the merit badges that Scout Troop handed out. Is there a Ted Bundy merit badge? If so, your loving son deserves one now. It should be red and green, for obvious reasons.[...]



Your son, this very moment, is doing everything he possibly can to sell as many copies of GTA IV to teen boys in the United States, a country in which your son claims you raised him to be "a Boy Scout." More like the Hitler Youth, I would say.

How can you read quotes like "There are three policemen dead in Alabama because of Grand Theft Auto" or "He's now dead because a teenaged boy unwittingly trained himself to kill him on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" without chuckling at the outrageousness of the stated claims?



I've seen people play the blame game before many times, but my hat's off to Jack Thompson for taking personal irresponsibility to new levels, letting any of us blame any and every choice we personally make on the media we're exposed to.



Might as well say something like this: "It's not my fault I'm fat, honey... we need to sue McDonalds for training me to become fat with their advertisements... and there's no age restriction on who they sell their deep-fat-foods to!"



Read it and chuckle heartily, because no one with an ounce of intelligence believes Thompson's irrational and irresponsible nonsense.

Its funny to a point. I think overall what he does just is stupidness and doesn't understand it. I think most of his crap is funny because it half the time makes no sense and has little fact to prove it.

Exactly, this man is a rickroll of epic form. Why he is treated as anything beyond that is a mystery to me. He is nothing more than a shock-jock with nothing valid to add to any argument that isn't designed to augment his ridiculous standing with an entirely misinformed fan base. Any single creature that uses his fantastical claims as foundations or cement in their walls of belief has been masterfully outwitted or is terribly misdirected.

The one thing that I don't find funny about Thompson is this: any sane person of intelligence who is either:



a) a Christian, or

b) an advocate of parental controls on M-rated media



...is smeared by association with Thompson. Yes, sadly someone arguing against either of these viewpoints does less damage than this imbecile who claims to be arguing for them.

Agree furthermore with your comment though, the associations/relationships that are made with him, degrade what are otherwise fine institutions, beliefs and cultures. In fact, I'll go one step further, he does a disservice to mankind itself by association.
