New TrackMania Titles Appear on Steam

New TrackMania titles are now available on Steam, and one of them is completely free for the taking!



Trackmania Nations Forever is the free offering and sequel to the popular racer. This free release offers up a solo mode with 65 tracks, an in-game track editor, online play via the TrackMania servers, a ladder system, and is compatible with the other new offering.



The second TrackMania title is an update to a previous release. TrackMania United Forever is the new kid on the block and is listed at $39.95 for the title. This title offers up 4 solo modes on over 265 tracks, seven different vehicle types, an integrated P2P system that allows you to show off your customization with your friends, level editor, ladder ranking system, and more.



Those who already own TrackMania United will receive the update to United Forever for free.

What I am finding is that it's not so much a free game as a free Crash System To Physical Memory Dump Blue Screen Of Death Trigger.



So far it's actually worth less than nothing.

So far I'm only racing under the 'white' flag in solo play, but I find it mostly easy. I like how you don't physically interact with the car you're trying to beat. Is multiplayer the same?



The tracks themselves are kinda weird. And short.



Great load times, though. You want to start over, you push delete and it's instant. Loading the map in the first place is quick, too. The only slow load time is to load the game itself when you first start.



One of the best free games I've seen in awhile. Not something I'd pay for, though.

Yes, it's the same. When playing online it's not uncommon to join servers with some 50 or so players on the same track. It's purely about obtaining the best time. The custom maps you'll play online can get to be really insane.

To be honest, I prefer some level of interaction with the enemy car in a racer. =/



What other racing games are on Steam? I used to really like Burnout, but I don't know if that's even on PC...

For reference, the Trackmania free series is supported by in-game advertising, but I find that most racing events are so ad-laden already that you almost don't notice the excessive number of in-game banners on every surface available... there are more ads, but they're much more tastefully done than, say, the ads in CS.



Anyway, fun free racer... really can't go wrong with this one (unless like alt+f4 you're getting a BSOD lol).

FWIW, I get the same BSOD with ARMA and Kane & Lynch. I click the icon to play and my system crashes.



In other news, Assassin's Creed plays exceedingly well on it despite the installer saying that my single-core P4 3.40GHz does not meet minimum spec.

I've had that issue when limiting my resolutions/refresh rates to avoid gaming at 60hz... all of the Source engine stuff will crash on my machine unless I use an override switch in the command-line parameters. Not saying this is necessarily your issue, but just a thought.
