CryEngine 2 Doing Well on Consoles

In a recent interview with IGN, Crytek's Harold Seeley talked about just how well the CryENGINE 2 is performing on the latest generation of consoles.
The surprising thing has been how well the consoles can perform visually, once this tailoring is in place. We expect the final outcome will result in games that look like they're running at high settings, or nearly high settings, on a PC. Actually, we found it as much or more challenging to address the memory limitations of the consoles when converting our current AI system, as we did while converting our rendering engine or physics system, which was not something you might have expected at the start.
There you go. You can have your pretty visuals on a console, but your AI enemies will just stand in place drooling all over themselves. Alright, not really.

Seeley also mentions that the PS3 is much more of a challenge for the team to work with compared to the 360, but in the end he hopes this will benefit everyone with more optimizations. And what about the Wii? Sorry, there won't even be any support for CryENGINE 1 titles in the near future.

Not exactly surprising...they've been saying for a while now that the main issue is the huge size and scope of some levels. Getting the engine to *LOOK* like it does on PC is one thing, but getting the level design to match that of Crysis is entirely another.
