CS-Nation News Update - Possible Redesign

We need a slight redesign around here. By that, I mean a possible color adjustment or a way to set each news piece apart from the other news pieces. Perhaps with an increased space between each news submission, maybe with a bit of a change in the background color just behind each news piece (something like what HL2.net has just done).

A clean look with plenty of space between the news pieces is what I'm really hoping for. I can't really code this sort of thing, and rizzuh is busy with his actual job, so we're hoping there's a kind soul out there that might help us with this venture. It doesn't have to be much, and there would be no name change or image changes involved.

If you're interested feel free to email me at zips [AT] csnation [DOT] net. If you already have an idea in mind, feel free to send me a few mock-ups of what you have and we can certainly go from there!

Additionally, I'm still focused on bringing you increased news from the FPS realm. No, there really hasn't been too much going on with Counter-Strike, so this change in focus is looking to be a permanent one. I do understand that some of you do not particularly enjoy the change and only wish to see specific news, so make sure to edit those user preferences accordingly.

Yes, I also realize I need to better categorize the news I add to the front page. From now on interviews dealing with specific titles (Portal, TF2, etc.) will go under their appropriate game heading and not just under "Interviews."

I've also been toying with the idea of doing a few game reviews here and there for some FPS titles. My first idea being a review for Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 for the Xbox 360. Is this something that would interest any of you? If so, I'll go through with the idea and see how it pans out. If not, there's no sense in my taking the time for it! Let me know about this and the other topics here in the comments.

None of the content will change. This is strictly for aesthetic changes.

My prediction: CS2 will be announced before the year end, you heard it here first <3

Reviews sound good. The CS content here is mostly redundant now anyway, and just endless news links is going to get stale.

Go for it with R6V2. I just got it for the 360 too (traded 360 CoD4 for it, after all I got the PC version when I upgraded).

CSN has been my homepage for about 3-4 years now and I might be in the minority of your older users (still not as old as some of you!), but I really think you should consider a name change. It is silly to still be called CS-Nation while covering all FPS titles. Even a change to something Steam-related would be nice. I know you considered one when you changed the focus of the site, and that this will likely not change your mind, but I just wanted my opinion out there.

BTW I actually like the new focus, I am mainly a FPS gamer and this is really the only site I need for all my news!

The name is not my call.

I'm actually posting something similar in the forums, but mca7 you should know that CS-Nation is a really strong brand. We've been around for 8 years, and our familiarity is why visitors like you return. We're not going to change the name, but our next design may no longer feature exclusive references to Counter-Strike. In that case, the "CS" in CS-Nation may not actually mean anything to new visitors — just like IGN and Shacknews don't really mean anything.

I honestly like the design and theme for the site as it is, just switch the CS image with something else.

...and will be half life 3's multiplayer component.

Also about the site, only thing that should be kept is the navy blue that is currently in the background of all pages, it could be used somewhere else but the navy blue has to be involved somehow, i'm used to visiting cs-nation and getting the familiar blue, nothing annoys me more than entire website colour schemes changing.

Kind of like what this very website did several years ago? Go back to green is what I say!

...and will have 0 new features, be a pure graphics update, with crappier netcode, and will remove the cs_ mode of gameplay. Approximately one year after release, CS:Source will have ads added (if it doesn't already have them by that time.)

1.6 already has retarded ads, I swear people sometimes blend in well with some of those HL2:E2 ads in dust2.
