Alright, so maybe entire worlds won't be destroyed in the upcoming title, Red Faction: Guerrilla, but a ton of buildings and objects will be! Developer Volition (Saint's Row) showed CVG that Red Faction's destruction isn't just a slight of hand trick.
They first show off what other game developers are doing with their supposedly "destructable environments", showcasing the tricks that make up the destruction in Crysis, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Mercenaries 2. Red Faction won't use any of those tricks claims Volition, noting that everything will have a weight and a mass, and all structures will need a load bearing system just like in real life.

The truck ploughs right through the wall of the building, knocking individual bricks into the air and rumbling support beams with the weight of the crash. It looks impressive, and incredibly dynamic.[...]The preview continues on to discuss the general plot of the game and what long time fans of the series can look forward to once the game is released.
"You can walk through buildings; you can destroy anything. There's no stopping you," the developer boldly claims, although noting that plot-central buildings will be rebuilt over time to keep the game from breaking.
