Episode 3 Delayed until 2010 - April Fools

Planet Half-Life has received word from an employee at Valve that Episode 3 has been delayed until some time in 2010! This reason? A move to "bring the Source engine up to the standards set by Crysis."

Planet Half-Life has received no additional information about these updates or why Valve's focus has suddenly shifted to creating graphics that would limit the scope of their userbase to such a degree.

I've sent in an email to Valve to see if they can provide any further details on this.

Has to be an April fools joke. Not about the delay til 2010, I would believe that if my cat told me - but upgrading the graphics to Crysis level... I seriously doubt that.

I think in two years from now, Source will have to match Crysis-level graphics in order for Valve to continuing licensing its engine. I mean, licensed engines need to stay up to day — I don't get the surprise in this thread.

I don't know about delaying episode 3 or whether this is all a prank or not, but of course the Source engine is going to be improved dramatically over the next few years.

I doubt the delay is true, but playing Counter-Strike 2 with Crysis graphics would be ideal.

Its an april fool joke :). A really sick april fools joke! LOL. But funny non the less. But yeah Source < CryTek's Engine and UT3. But again, you got to remember, Source came out before Cry Engine 2, and the UT3 engine been in dev for like 5 years and finnally came out and has some really awesome features. But personally if I had to build a game and market to the widest of computer spec I'd choice source, as it still allows DirectX 7.x support and up to 9+ and you can still have a semi-crappy machine to run the game.

The sad thing is, even though this is an April Fool's joke...b/c of Valve time Episode 3 won't actually come out until 2010.

I agree with that but not really for EP3 or a two year timeframe.

Nobody wants Cysis level graphics yet. Christ, no PC can run them properly, so delaying EP3 on behalf of trying to attain that goal - I believe - is something Valve would not do.

With Half-Life 3, sure, I think people will expect a major update engine wise. Well... Half-Life 3 in spirit, however they decide to go about it.
