If you haven't heard by now, Futuremark is trying to trademark the term "pwnage." Let that completely absurd sentence sink into your mind a bit. If you think it's a joke, it's sadly not. But what does Futuremark have to say about this and the many cries of "n00b," "WTF," and "ROTFL's" that came from this news?
Fellow gamers,Ohhh, so that's it? It's a good thing they're protecting the world's gamers from those evil squatters! I'd hate to think about some company trying to trademark that name that had no right to do so.
Our purpose in filing for trademark on the name "Pwnage" is not to charge money or stop people from using the expression. That's not what a trademark is for. Instead, we want to protect ourselves from squatters (or what I call campers) - people looking to trademark the name on false pretenses, just to make a claim against Futuremark Games Studio for its use.
