Team Fortress 2 Update Comes with Badlands

A series of major updates have just been released for the Steam client, Team Fortress 2, Source TV, and the Source engine.

The changes are many, but the major release points are that Badlands is now available for TF2, a number of graphical optimizations have been made on the Source engine, a number of existing TF2 maps have received much needed exploit fixes, and various download improvements for the Steam client have been made. Restart Steam to get the update process started!

Badlands was a great TFC map, and they did a great job with the TF2 version!

Plus, the new pyro crackling sound makes me hungry for bacon!!

I must say, I'm personally a bit disappointed in the new version of Badlands. I guess I was expecting more of a TFC version, but this one just seems to have everything scaled down.

The level seems a lot more condensed, and the layout too drastically changed. Again, I probably am not a fan, at least right now, due to my having loved the TFC version of the map. I realize this is a new game with a new design but... yeah.

I'm not too happy with Badlands, it's an ok map, nothing special about it. Maybe Goldrush will excite me more.

I really thought the vertical spire would be a lot bigger (like point C in gravelpit).

So what are the major updates to the source engine?, are they for all source games?

Having not played badlands in TFC, I think it's a cool map.

I wouldn't mind the spires being bigger, if that means they're easier to climb. The whole 'spiral one way, then the other' is annoying, it'd be easier if it was just a normal all-the-way-around spiral. Plus I completely suck at rocket jumping and pipe bomb jumping so even when I'm those classes I've got to climb the thing slowly.

But as far as the map goes...I think there's too many alternate routes for such a small map. If it's going to have that many alternate routes, it needs to be bigger. I love big maps, of course, but this one feels like it was designed to be bigger.

If you take a map that's meant to be big, and meant to have a lot of people, and then 'shrink' it, then you get a map that stalemates too easily, especially at that central point on the bridge...there's just too many ways to approach it, too hard to guard.

That's just my opinion, though. I played 1v1 against someone last night on that map and it's probably the most fun I've had playing TF2 yet.
