    Hands-On With Badlands

A few people from Shacknews recently had a little hands on time with the new map coming for Team Fortress 2, Badlands. The staffers that went and playtested the map each offer up their own impressions of the new, unfinished, control point map.
The bridge that separated the bases from one another is the locale of the new map's neutral control point, now situated among a series of rail cars.

From there it's a short sprint to the bases, where most of the carnage will likely unfold. One of the more brutal features of the new Badlands is the penultimate control point, situated atop a rocky spire on either side of the map, just in front of the bunker. A steep path encircling the spire will lead you to the top, where exposure on three fronts--one of which is directly facing the bunker's battlements--will be your greatest threat.
I can't say that I'm entirely pleased to hear that Badlands has been transformed from a CTF map to a CP map, but it sounds as if its being handled with care. You can read all about it over at the Shack.

Why more CP maps? I don't understand. There is a huge need for more CTF maps and badlands would have been great for another CTF.

I prefer CP maps actually. CTF, especially on servers with more than 10 people (5 per team), turn into fragfests where nothing ever happens, especially on servers that feel compelled to lower spawn times.

i agree with thortok. just like in the original ctf maps, they just become fragfests where no one cares to do the actual objective. CP maps, everyone tries to control the points.

There is one ctf map though, 2fort was always a fragfest. I just think a few more official ctf maps would be nice. The custom ones are kinda crappy. I like CP maps, but I just miss the ctf goodness.
