Oculus Anti-Cheat Makes Its Debut

Oculus? What happened to VAC? Well, VAC is still there, but Oculus is a user made anti-cheat system that might find its way onto more of your favorite servers. How does it work? Let's have this blurb from Steambans.com explain it for us.

Oculus AC is:

Automated Pattern Recognition Anti-Cheat System (APRACS)

Fully Serverside - No client

Entirely heuristic - With weight on no false positives

Cannot be bypassed like old client/server anti-cheats

Reliable and accurate

Detection of cheats not even known at time of development

It does sound like a great AC system, in theory. Only time will tell just how well Oculus will work against those wascally-wabbits, er, I mean cheaters.

fucking genius, I've suggested something like this for years, only issue is admin fucking with players movements speeds, and crosshairs.

Can admin mess around with a players crosshairs? hmm I dunno

The most important issue is how much support will this get?



I believe if the leagues support this and mandate it on their play (which they probably will not, for the competitive scene hates change) then it will trickle down onto the public servers. When more people know about it and see results, I think great things can happen for this.



However, without good support this will go by the wayside much like HLGuard once did.
