    Valve Acquires Turtle Rock Studios

Turtle Rock Studios, the development crew behind the highly anticipated Left 4 Dead, has just been acquired by Valve Corporation. You may be more familiar with the studio from their work done on Counter-Strike: Source, providing a number of maps and additional work into the title over the years.
"We have been seeing very strong growth with Steam and Source, our content distribution and development platforms, up over 150% over the last 12 months. Given our expectations for Left 4 Dead and our long-standing relationships with members of the Turtle Rock team, this was an easy decision. It also gives us a base from which to expand our development activities in the Los Angeles area," said Gabe Newell, president of Valve.

"Left 4 Dead fills a long-standing demand gamers have had for a coop first-person action experience, and it will also help Valve's expansion into the console market," added Doug Lombardi, Valve's VP of marketing.
Alright, with a show of hands, who here thought that TRS was already owned by Valve to begin with?

You can find more information on this deal thanks to a the press release.

Sounds to me like left 4 dead will be great, why would valve acquire a company that is making a crappy game. They didn't acquire turtle rock after their work on CZ hehe

You DO realize that Valve had their hands all over Left 4 Dead from the start, right? It's been a major showpiece at their offices with constant meetings with TRS.

I know it's off topic, but 10 months between Skin of the Days? I find that to be far more amusing.

Valve to me is a well respected company, anything they set their minds (or eyes) on, deserves the same respect. Here's to another decade of pure awesomeness.
