Call of Duty 4 Gets Steamed Up

As you might expect with the other Call of Duty titles already on Steam, Call of Duty 4 has been announced as coming to Steam later this month.
As both a U.S Marine and British S.A.S. soldier fighting through an unfolding story full of twists and turns, players use sophisticated technology, superior firepower and coordinated land and air strikes on a battlefield where speed, accuracy and communication are essential to victory. The epic title also delivers an added depth of multiplayer action providing online fans an all-new community of persistence, addictive and customizable gameplay.
The game features over 70 weapons and gear items, a multiplayer mode that allows for some 55 ranks over the 16 map lineup. The game is available for pre-order and will be unlocked on the 12th for the Steam version of the game.

I really liked the 360's MP beta they had. The SP PC demo was a bit lacking IMO though.

I'm looking foward to this game. But I'm not going to get it till I build my new system.

The one thing I don't like about the call of duty games is its just a bunch of scripted sequences. If you pause behind cover and ignore your commander telling you to flank through the basement, then the guys on the balcony in the demo just keep respawning and potshotting you and your squad, no matter how many times you kill them. In HL2, if you sit back and do nothing during combat between rebels and combine, eventually one side will win. I just like the feel of that more than the extreme "on a rail" type feel of the COD games.

The demo looked amazing though, I have to say. And there were some fun parts (blowing up the tanks on the bridge).

Actually, based on that description kerosine99, I'm now more interested in giving COD a try. Replayability is fun and all, but what you described would feel more story-based and cinematic.

So it rapes the Orange Box only because you say the MP is good? Yeah, the MP is good, but it's half of the title. And when the other half (SP) is rather short and has infinite enemy respawns (as I saw in the SP demo) ... well. No GOTY nod from me.

Thank god Im not the only one who noticed this.

This is what kills the COD series, and its a shame it hasn't been removed in COD4. I mean honestly, how many guys can you fit in one building?

Seeing a GOTY mention there is just wrong, there are many better games out there, and the Orange box definitely has a large edge over this. Don't kid yourselves, it looks good, but thats about it.

Not for me. The MP is uber when it comes to CoD4 (well I bought the 360 version anyway).
