ModCenter recently sat down and had a nice chat with Valve's Robin Walker. This interview focuses more on the development side of game creation, and may not appeal to everyone.
ModCenter: What were the biggest lessons you had to learn when going from amateur development to pro development? What was different? What was the same?If you're an aspiring mod developer looking to strike it big, then perhaps this interview will give you the insight you need to strike it big.
Walker: The biggest change was moving from a tiny development team into a much larger one to work on bigger projects. This impacted all our work, changing the way we wrote code, the way we communicated, the way we made design decisions, and so on. Interestingly, much of the way we've evolved our development process at Valve has been aimed at getting back some of the advantages that mod makers have, where they can rapidly make changes to the game and get feedback from customers as soon as possible.
