Man oh man, has it ever been the busy week! I'm in the middle of composing the preview for Portal and Episode 2, and Valve is gearing up for their release next week. They had some great news to share in this week's Steam news update for October 5, 2007.
Once the video for the Demo is made available, you can rest assured we'll have a streaming format here as has been the case with the recent video releases. All classes will eventually be featured in their own video in the "Meet the" series. Beyond that? Who knows.
As I mentioned, the preview for Portal and Episode 2 is well underway. I hope to have that done by the end of the weekend, if not sooner. Depending on my schedule, I may have to postpone my preview for Left 4 Dead until after the Orange Box review is completed. Nobody will mind too much, right? Right?!
We'll be unlocking The Orange Box products just after midnight Pacific time next week on the 10th of October. Lots of people have been having a lot of fun with the Team Fortress 2 beta, so we're looking forward to seeing what people think of Portal and Episode Two. The Orange Box will also be available at North American game retailers later on the 10th, for both PC and XBOX 360.Also of note is the discovery of the "gift" options for Half-Life 2 and Episode 1. On the 10th, you'll be able to gift your copies of HL2 and Ep1. Those receiving the gifts will see one or both of the gift received screens. At present, the buttons do not work, only serving to bring up the guest pass screen in Steam. A midnight (Pacific) launch is planned. If you need to know what time that is where you are be sure and make use of this handy time zone converter.
We've also been running a television advertisement for the The Orange Box over the past couple of weeks, which you can take a look at here. We're hoping to get one more of the Team Fortress 2 class movies out before the launch, rumor has it that it will be featuring the Demoman.
For people that have purchased The Orange Box over Steam, now is the time to decide who your real friends are, since you'll be able to give them the gift of Half-Life 2 or Episode One if you already own those games. We'll have that all ready to go at the start of next week.
