    Steam Client and TF2 Updates

A couple of updates were released just a few moments ago for the Steam Client and for Team Fortress 2. You can see the full changelog right below.
      Steam Client

    • Fixed corrupt backup creation for certain games

    • Updated game overlay to support Assassin’s Creed

      Team Fortress 2

    • Added Custom Tab explanation dialog to be shown the first time the server browser is opened

    • Changed Medigun Ubercharge meter to drain faster for each target that still has Ubercharge beyond your current target. This means there is a penalty for having multiple people being Ubercharged at one time

    • Fixed crouch-jump exploit that allowed players to get outside of the world

    • Fixed bad characters in the chat string when achievements are announced in languages other than English

    • Fixed a few instances of truncated text in the menus and dialogs for languages other than English

    • Fixed problem that was preventing some dedicated servers from uploading gamestats

    • Fixed scoring bug during Sudden Death when the map timelimit is triggered

    • Added the string "(extra slot was added for SourceTV)" when maxplayers is increased for SourceTV

I was having some sort of problem starting up tf2 where it would take a long time loading, then it would try to load a background map, and fail.

Weird, but this seems to fix it.

Now I still have the problem of the server list not displaying until I hit 'stop updating' and then 'retrieve' again

Did you report this on their forums?

nope, I figured it'd be fixed in the full version, I might report, I might just wait

It's mindsets like that that prevent bugs from being fixed and cause people to just complain more. Report it. Submit a support ticket even.

Yeah, it's exactly mindsets like that, that when the game is released, they're like "this bug was around long before release, why did they release it with this bug in it?"

Being able to play the game before it's released is fun and all, but it IS a beta, which means you really should be trying to bug test the game, and then reporting it.

                  :\

Am I the only one that thinks the dialog box - and custom tab - is stupid? Not only that, but I can assure you most gamers will ignore it, either out of clicking past it out of reflex, or just not wanting to read the paragraph of text used to say that instead of using a "Filter by Tags" option under the "Internet" tab you have to go to an entirely different tab to browse by custom games.

Also, not sure how that medic thing is going to play out, but it doesn't sound like it affected anything really..Like the font stuff.

Another also: Hopefully they fixed the crouch/jump problem this second time around (Look at the previous changelog, 'Fixed several dustbowl/etc exploits', that's the first attempt, referring to placing buildings outside the map clipping, above stairs in first level)
