    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. On S.T.E.A.M.

Though announced a few weeks ago, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is now available for immediate purchase on Steam.
Offering a unique combination of First-Person Shooter (FPS) and Survival-Horror action, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl gives gamers unprecedented freedom to explore the devastated exclusion zone that surrounds the Chernobyl power plant following a second apocalyptic explosion.
It's only $29.95 and, in my opinion, it's well worth it.

Definitely well worth the buy, it's a shweet game, not so much on the multiplayer part.

Obviously you haven't played it enough to realize there's a patch that fixes 80% of those glitches.

For anyone else with their head not shoved up their asses, S.T.A.L.K.E.R has one of the best single player campaigns I've experienced. It also has very nice levels with great atmosphere.

          WRONG.

I've played it since the patch, and it still sucks. Still feels incomplete, still has a terrible UI, still has a terrible story and awful gameplay. Play STALKER if you like absolutely horrible games.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it, however... He is not wrong. The game is quite bug free in its state. It's a hell of a lot of fun, great visuals if your computer can handle it, great story with multiple endings.

Play it if you like having a great experience and are tired of the run and gun "been there, done that" game.

How does it feel incomplete? I've gone through the single player campaign more than 4 times, I still find it entertaining because I can attain different outcomes. More than you can say about Half Life 2, but that doesn't make it a bad game. The UI has absolutely nothing wrong with it. Game play is different, but not terrible. This game is a mix between an FPS and an RPG, and I think they did a splendid job at mixing those genre's game styles together.

So maybe we should rephrase it to:

"Only play stalker if you're not afraid to come out of your Counter-Strike shelter and try something new."

I play CS maybe four hours a week.

Anyway, I find it comical that you guys are defending such a blatantly shitty game.

I find it comical that you pretend that you know more about a game than those of us who can appreciate what it does incredibly well, have played it multiple times, and find it to be one of the best games of the year.

Maybe if you actually gave reasons for your (shitty) opinion we wouldn't think you a retard

                    I loved it.

I love the exploration bits. You can go through it as fast or as slowly as you'd like. Has a lot of good adventurous bits.

Climbing things was fun as well. I managed to get on top of the main building in the Garbage. What an awesome view.

I love STALKER. If you are looking for a great single player game, STALKER is a steal at $30, I paid $50 and am glad I did, would have paid more. I am playing through my second time and still love it.

STALKER is a little glitchy and isn't perfect, but I still love it. I love the FPS with a splash of RPG.

If you are a detail orientated person, and like, for example, exploring every nick and cranny in HL2, then you will like this game. If you like running around like crazy in Unreal Tournament, then this game is not for you.

Lol, dispense with the attempts at sounding tough or clever. No effect on me, or any other intelligent person.

Anyway, as to why STALKER is an inferior piece of garbage, (or, as you put it, the reasons for my (shitty) opinion, lol) here are the reasons:

                        1. Mediocre graphics. This doesn't really matter, but it's a point.

                        2. Enemies don't react when you shoot them.

                        3. Most NPCs speak in text. Even Deus Ex had voices for everyone.

                        4. In several instances, you can load into an area and die instantly. There are also several gunfights that are almost impossible to win.

                        5. Weapon "stats" are weakly implemented.

                        6. Possible to ruin "reputation" with factions without the game ever informing you beforehand.

                        7. Generic, pointless side quests.

                        8. Poor English localization.

                        9. Indoor levels are very bland and uninspired.

                        10. Running around wide-open expanses of nothing is boring, lazy gameplay.

                        11. Clunky, useless interface.

                        12. AI is uneven. Sometimes it is really good, and sometimes it is absolutely horrible.

                        13. NPCs feel almost 100% identical.

So anyway, the game is a good effort, especially since it was made by so few people. But that doesn't mean you should play it.

I'm just glad I pirated my copy of it. Cheers.

                            Well there's your problem...

And STALKER graphics were quite impressive. I'd say the onely way STALKER graphics are mediocre if you run it on Static Lighting, and all the options set to low.

Seriously, the highest settings are quite demanding, but the payoff in terms of looks is well worth it.
