Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War Now on Steam

The latest offering from the Warhammer series is now on Steam. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War comes in two flavors.

The first offering is the Gold Edition ($16.95) that features both the GOTY edition and the expansion, Winter Assault. There is also a Platinum Edition ($35.95) that features the GOTY title, the Winter Assault expansion, and the Dark Crusade expansion ($27.95).

The above prices are only going to be around for a week, so act fast!

I think this was made by the people who made Company of Heroes. I have and like the later, can anyone who has this already tell me if they are similar?

I've played a lot of CoH and a little bit of DoW. It's definitely familiar feeling (capturing points, giving upgrades to individual units, etc) and I've heard good things about the Dark Crusade expansion. Go for the platinum edition or get a demo first.

Dawn Of War - like many Warhammer games, and in fact like many Warhammer-related things (so long as you don't have to play the actual bastard tabletop game) - is fucking awesome. $16.95? Bargin.

It's kinda cool as you don't have resources in the conventional form; you get reinforcement points when you capture a location point and hold it. In other words, you get more resources when you head out of your base and advance! No "hedgehogging" here :)

.....except of course when you play as necrons, who use electricity as their power.....and get their troops for free....and can resurrect their troops....and unearth all their structures because they're ALREADY THERE! In case you hadn't worked it out, necrons rock

There's a much stronger focus on infantry and upgrading your exisiting squads, instead of hording resources and tanks for one final end game rush.

Trying to describe how to play in a world weaned on C&C and the rest is very difficult. Get hold of the demo and prepare to be amazed.
