A Quick Look at the Steam Community

Just from a brief, five minute look at the Steam Community the following features caught my eye.

• You can add any game to Steam. I don't just mean games that are sold through Steam, I mean ANY game on your computer. (See Picture)
  
  
• You can adjust a number of additional settings within Steam to more totally control your experience.
  
  
• The Friends system has also received a significant overhaul.
  
  
• The base Steam interface has received a slight overhaul, making for easier Store and Community page navigation (more like a web browser now). (See Picture)
  
  
• Voice communication across all games thanks to the feature being added within the Steam client itself.

What the hell is Steam Rating and why is mine so bad, or should I say "El Terrible!"

Well, you don't really add it to steam. It's just a fancy way of saying "Oh, you can add a shortcut to start up all your games like the ones made by Valve!" This isn't a bad thing, it's convenient but you're not going to be downloading Battlefield 2142 from Steam any time soon. (Or maybe you will?)

Yeah, it just adds a shortcut. Right now it's a little flakey for some people. I added Guild Wars just fine but haven't tried any other game yet.

I have a weird bug. When I join a game in CS:S theres a little MSN-Like pop-up for every single player in the server... Did I miss a setting?

So, my one complaint for the moment. Yes, you can add non-steam game links, but currently you cannot then move those games into your favorites list. Seeing as "my favorites" is normally the only list I have visible, this largely decreases the usefulness of this feature for me. Hopefully this is a bug, rather than a design decision!

Haha, and I just cut it off like two weeks ago... it was getting too hot around here. :P Now, you cowards, post your steam community pages for us to browse! Hurry, I want to make fun of how you look and everything you love!



And yes... I haven't played CS in probably a solid month, if not longer. I added Hero Online to my games list, however, so if it ever starts tracking how long we play our custom games... my Steam rating will be through the roof! But yeah, I play Sudoku when I need to relax and aside from that, most of my 1st person gaming is 3rd party HL2 mods.



Anyway, I'm really liking the whole community thing so far, and I definitely encourage the rest of you guys to go to the website and reserve your name before it's taken... :)
