It's a moot point for me now since installing the patch I keep getting a "This game is not currently available. Please try again later." message followed by Symantec Antivirus autoprotecting against two unidentified Trojan .tmp files. Same With CS:S. All spyware and virus scans find nothing but launching INS or CS:S from within Steam now always produces the above.

BTW - SiN Episodes still works, as does BloodRayne, HL2 and the newly downloaded Threadspace: Hyperbol demo.

I would like to stat that I too am getting a Trojan Virus warning now whenever I launch INS or any Steam game like CSS since installing the 1.1 patch. Although I have cleared my temp files and my anti-virus says there is no virus actually there when I run a scan, so my question would be why I get that :S

The game is great though, I just hate that I know get this trojan virus warning every time I launch the game.
Good ol Norton/Symantec... How I hate their software.

At any rate, it seems as though it's returning a few false positives.

You're lucky that the mod still runs. I've uninstalled it and restarted my system and CS:S still gets the Game Currently Unavailable error, the virus alerts and refuses to run.

False positives? On what? And what's now left over after uninstall that's still triggering the alerts and preventing CS from running?

I also noticed that an odd driver directory had been added to my Start menu and uninstalled that as well. Still no go.

So fuck you Steam and INS team, Fuck You very much. Maybe I'll try the mod again if and when I hear it's virus-free and, like, maybe fun.

What "drivers" folder? That has to be unrelated to anything Steam or Ins related as I've installed the update and haven't run into anything like that.

False positives. The thread I linked to above said it's something with a temp folder. Symantec must have updated and something in that folder is triggering it because Symantec is crap.

You don't have a virus, don't fear monger.

Speaking of crap, my favorite part about Norton Internet Security is that you can't uninstall it.

It's like Herpes. Once you get it, you can't get rid of it.

The very reason (the main one at least) why I hate it! :)

I'm not fear mongering. I'm reporting what I've seen and nothing suggested on the Steam or INSMOD forums corrects the problem except disabling Autoprotect on my antivirus, which is pretty fucked up coding if you ask me, especially since the problem is obviously so prevalent.

Bemoan the bloat and innefectiveness of most recent Norton products all you like and I'll agree with you, but Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 9 (not 10) is the best I've ever used and I've used them all.

Oh, and sorry about the Fuck You Very Muches above. I was a little pissed off back then. Now I'm just mildly annoyed. It's hard enough to like this thing -- even wanting to -- without bugs like this coming at you sideways.

SAV Corp Edition 9 is the last product I had a problem with from them. I couldn't remove it until I reformatted my system.

Weird. 10 was bugged right out of the box but I've installed 9 on literally hundreds of systems with no problems whatsoever. I used to swear by Norton but they've screwed themselves out of the market with insidious installs and performance crippling "features."

Oh, and I misspelled "ineffectiveness" in my last post.

Norton....how I used to think their products were decent. Nowadays, I use a free virus scanner called Anti-Vir.

Norton is like AOL. All their money goes to publicity and not a bit of it goes towards quality. They also do everything possible to make sure it's not even possible to get rid of them. They suck in as many customers as they can through being the most advertised, and never let any of them go without a fight, all while giving them some of the crappiest products on the market. I call them 'newbie-magnets'.

Umm I hope you do realise the military are training with computer games? Often the games are used to build tactics into a scenario and as such the maps are customised to whatever specific location the military are looking to attack.
They use simulations as an aid in training tactics not just sitting recruits in front of a computer for 10 hours a day and then sending them off to war. Hell playing tag and hide and seek has more use as training for war then a video game.

Look at at game like operation flashpoint, as realistic a game you can find. I've played it many times, I doubt that would help me in a real war environment. Sure I understand some concepts of war through playing the game, but that could of been taught to me allot faster in learning environment instead of video game.

Typical americans to say something like that, really... go get a life dude, its not all about real life, games are for fun and pleasure and excitement not about shooting REAL US army people.

                            NOD 32 FTW :)

If by "Typical americans" you mean people with a set of values and respect for the men and women fighting and dying on their behalf then you are quite correct.

Games ARE for fun and pleasure and excitement -- categories under which I do not include shooting, wounding and killing forces clearly dressed and identified as U.S. Marines in parts of the world where this is actually happening.

Typical europeans, then, (or whatever the fuck you are) to find it not only acceptable but exciting, pleasurable and fun.

Dirka Dirka Mohammed Jihad to you, my ignorant, insensitive friend.

I guess they should stop making WWII based games. Because those are also based on reality...
