I was another that was hardcore into TFC before coming to CS. I tried the practice thing for CS when it was bundled with Half-Life and just hated it to no end. My friend eventually roped me into it and well...

... I still love TFC though and I can guarantee it's going to take something like CS2 to bring me back to CS once TFC2 is released.

It's funny because Rizzuh mentioned CS2 & TF2 then. If TF2 is possible, and being released this Fall, why not CS2? :P

I started playing whenever the colt had a scope and a silencer, whichever beta that was. Cs_docks also seemed to be on heavy rotation.

But yeah, I'm another TFC -> CS, although I still play both.

            First CS I ever played was 1.3. I wasn't really into FPS's. I hadn't even played Quake.

I was at a LAN party and some friends showed me the game. Played on cbble and militia, mostly. Cbble confused us, we couldn't find the other bombsite. When everyone on the team hasn't played the map before, you get kinda lost. =P Also, there was a bug where the bombsite marker didn't display on some people's screens. Anyway.

I had a blast and I still remember specific moments. Like when I aced the entire terrorist team, in a 3v3, on cs_militia, with 1 health. Crazy lucky, there. Everyone playing sucked, which made it fun.

Around the end of 1.4, I bought it for myself. I think I played 1.4 for less than a week before 1.5 came out. Been playing it off and on ever since.

I had a laptop back then, and I was kind of living out of hotels. I'd hook up some CS 1.5, some pizza, some mountain dew, and I'd hit 'quick start' and just play CS pretty much all day.

When I stopped being able to afford hotels, by the time I got back to CS, it was about ready to switch to 1.6 and steam. I played 1.6 'beta' and had a blast with the shields. My only complaint was that it stacked in favor of CT's, since the T's didn't have any. It certainly helped the CT's out a lot, especially on T-stacked maps, but on even maps, it wasn't fair.

I've pretty much played 1.6 for a couple of years I think. Slowly got bored with normal CS, and started playing WC3 mod servers, then went to UWC3. Lots of fun, that was, getting the item that prevented you from getting headshot.

One thing I noticed, is that from 1.5 to 1.6, it was a lot easier to headshot people. And then later on, when I went from 1.6 to Source, it was even easier. I wonder what people would do if they went from Source to 1.5...people would almost never get headshot, in comparison anyway. I kinda miss the difficulty of getting and giving headshots, made the game more fun to live longer than the first bullet. 5-10 bullets should be what it takes to kill you, anything under 5 is just annoying.

            Anyway. My rant. =P

I totaly agree, Thortok2000. CS has always been a mod based on timing skills. But it never was that much. The more killing the opponent gets easy, the more your timing stands as an imporant factor. Cause you have to be the first one shooting. Game was much more fun back in old beta days. I remember, in Beta 6 you had to draw a circle around enemy spending like almost half to full clip of your MP5 in order to kill him.

I was an 18 year old college student when i first started playing CS. Now I'm nearing my 30s and still playing the same game. I remember the time when people are bulls**ng about for how much time they play. Some kids were telling that they play CS for more than 5 years, when it was 3 years after first beta. Who would imagine 8 years...

Last week i searched for souce versions of old CS maps but couldn't find any. Do you guys too miss your times playing on cs_backalley, cs_arabstreets, cs_mansion, cs_estate, de_survivor etc. ? These were damn great maps and noone even knows about them today. Even militia and nuke don't get played anymore after their unsuccessful (in my opinion) conversion to source.

It is funny to think that it all started 8 years ago, and to think of the people I've met and things that've happened because of it. Sure as hell doesn't seem like it's been 8 years. I swear it was just yesterday I was yelling at Rizzuh for being a faggot and fucking with a server's gravity for his own personal enjoyment.

I too was a TFC convert. Took me more than the initial intro, though... I was told about CS by a friend at my university, and so I installed it and gave it a shot. First map I played was as_oilrig, and I spent nearly all of my initial 20 minutes of CS1.0 dazed, confused, and for the most part sitting dead in spectator after being headshot from enemies I barely saw. That was enough to make me go running back to the noob protection that TFC's inaccurate fire and instant respawn gave me.

It was another two months of TFC and Tribes before I gave CS a second try, and that time I got hooked, watching my playtime skyrocket for the next several years as my grades plummeted. Ahhh, those were the days. Ironically enough, as_oilrig turned out to be my all-time favorite map.

Haha, I miss playing on n@rby's clownhut against the CSN guys... noobs like that rizzuh.php character, as well as the usual puffycloud, SinaC and pinchet fare. Actually, come to think of it, that was during my 56k era... scratch that, those were evil and dark times.

Now I'm an MMO addict, with only occasional spurts of CS thrown in there (and by CS I mean CZ multiplayer) when the mood strikes. Still love the game, but my body needs time to detoxify from the FPS genre before I return. :)

Anyway, happy 8th b-day CS. It's been a fun ride these past... for me just shy of 7 years.

Well that makes me the only one who transitioned from ut to cs.

Only played tfc once, and I thought it sucked and went back to cs.

Not quite. I also started out with UT, though admittedly I didn't really 'transition' from UT to CS like that since I kept playing UT along side CS right up until UT became obsolete due to shitty UT2Kclusterfuck or whatever it was. In fact the only reason I ever really switched over to CS properly is because original UT just lost all support, if UT still had any kind of support or real community past modders, I'd still be playing it.

Whoa, fuck yeah I just realised myself, all the things that have happened to me and the people that I've met, because of CS. I only got into CS shortly after 1.5 was made (yeah I'm really not old-school), but even just since then, I've met quite a lot of people via CS that have effected my life in some way or another.

Christ, I just realised if it hadn't been for CS, my life would be totally different, and/or I'd probably be miserable and/or dead by now. Now that's a mind-fuck right there.

                              lol

That's funny, cause I now still randomly play ut (yeah, still ut99 for me) but I haven't touched cs since december.

I started playing cs in version 1.0 (and, tbh, I thought it sucked the first time... I had to be convinced to play it again, only then did I start enjoying it), but I never really made online friends... just one guy from belgium. That's cause I played at a lan house, and met a lot of people there.

If I hadn't started playing, I would be a huge studying nerd and a lot more sucessful at university. Woah, quite a dodge right there, heh?

Yeah, if I hadn't gotten so enthralled with UT and CS, I probably would have stayed on at school and actually gotten some kind of qualifications, and I'd be able to get a job now. Thankfully my gaming addiction/low-profile pro gaming career convinced me to leave early, so now I have nothing real to fall back on, at all, of any kind.

                                Thank you gaming.
