    Another Team Fortress 2 Preview

Do you remember the stretch of time where there was nothing new on the Team Fortress 2 front for years at a time? I do and I'm glad those days are long gone. Shacknews has a brand new hands-on preview of Team Fortress 2.
One of the most potentially hilarious recurring events in Team Fortress 2 occurs when you are killed--at that moment, the camera does a snap zoom up to your killer and holds a freeze frame, capturing the enemy's position, weapon, and location at the moment the deed was done. Most of the time, this is nothing special, but what makes the feature such a great part of Team Fortress 2 is that, every so often, the enemy player character will have been caught in the middle of one of the game's gorgeous animations--most notably, the Heavy's gleefully psychopathic grin and belly laugh. Getting killed by a Heavy sticks and seeing him frozen in time, face a picture of joy as illuminated by his massive gun's muzzle flash, sticks out in my mind as one of my most memorable experiences with the game. Thankfully, the game automatically offers the option to save the snapshot to your PC.
There is a good deal of new information in this preview, including class specific details. I'm just glad to see the sniper retained nearly all of his functionality from TFC.

Only new information is kill animations (like the heavy laughing). Everything else has been said elsewhere if you've been reading the articles/videos, but this one puts together a lot of the details nicely and in less pages.

Wait I have a great idea lets just get rid of guns and we can run around throwing grenades at each other, you don't even need a class system or a health system, It would be terrific!

Seriously they aren't making TFC on a new engine, they are making a game based on the ideas of TFC. One of the ideas most prominent is class based combat, and to make the classes more unique and balanced they decided to not include grenades. That sounds pretty good to me. Now instead of tossing grenades at sentry guns and snipers you will have to use the skills of your class to get the advantage.

I'm sick of previews, they're starting to piss me off, for every god damn game, not just TF2.

I'm totally with you there, i like to hear about a game in development , then a month or two before it comes out get a preview. Some how as many previews as we get, we still can't figure out if a game is total crap until there is at least a demo or public beta test.

They have CS maps like that, and they're actually kinda fun every now and then, heh. :) Nevertheless, your point remains valid enough. Time will tell whether VALVe's decisions were well-founded or not, but I have high hopes for TF2.
