    We'll See Orange Come October 9, 2007

Yes, in a semi-official, official statement, Valve confirms to Shacknews that Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal will be released October 9, 2007 for all platforms. This includes the PC, 360, and the PS3 versions of the Orange Box. The announcement was given to Shacknews via "Valve representatives."
It will sell for $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Previously, the company intended to sell a slimmer package, The Black Box, which would not include Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode One, but those plans were cancelled last month. It is expected that Steam customers will retain the option to purchase only the newly-released games.
Oh boy. I'd like to keep a positive outlook on having a set release date but for some reason I just can't help but be a little apprehensive.

Not really, given you get 5 games, or 3, or 2, depending on how hotly you're contesting the Orange box strategy.

Will it be out for Christmas then? Valve's release dates always have a large margin of error...

Best deal in gaming history for me. I'm really excited to play all 3 of the new games, and I never bought episode 1 so this is great for me. I see it more as just buying the 3 games and getting access to play previous hl2 games. I remember paying 70$ for a snes game back in the day so 50$ for 3 games is awesome.

That statement came from Shacknews. I'd say that is nothing more than speculation on their part unless it's stated officially from Valve somewhere.

I was honestly expecting $30 or $40, but good lord, $50 for the PC? What if I just want the bloody Episode 2 and that's it? God I hope I can buy it alone on Steam.

Why would you expect 30 or 40 when every big new release game is $50. Now since it's on steam with no box say $40 for a new release and add to that there are 3 new releases in this package and $50 seems pretty sweet.

I don't know why people are complaining about the $49.99 price point. You get like five games for the price of one.

Stupid value. I want the black box back. Don't make me rebuy everything. It feels like a double tax or something... Value taking a page from the government's playbook.

There are many ways to look at it, but the fact is 50$ is pretty much the normal game tag and getting the 3 new games is a great deal. The previous 2 hl2 games are like when you got the "back catalog" with hl2 silver, I didn't see it as paying for hl1 all over again, it was just a bonus.

I'm sure when they are individually priced on steam they will be a little more then 1/3 of the 50$ package set and not 1/5, which of course would mean that hl2 and episode 1 are just a bonus to buying the package.

HL2: EP1 was only $17.95.(on Steam) I really only want EP2. I hope I can just get EP2 for the same price.
