Episode 2 Delayed. For the PS3. Maybe.

    Best. Headline. Ever.

Some observant Kotaku visitors have pointed out a positively hillarious closing paragraph in IGN's preview of Episode 2 that was publically unveiled yesterday. The preview at IGN originally contained the following closing comment.
All that remains now is the long wait for October when Half-Life 2: Orange Box (hopefully) sees release on PC and 360. For PS3 owners, the wait will be even longer and possibly into 2008.
Don't panic! Kotaku contacted Valve's Doug Lombardi and received the following response.
I'm not sure why the IGN guys have that listed. Right now, we're targeting early October for release of the Orange box on all three platforms - PS3, PC, and 360.
There you have it. There's no delay for the PS3 (yet). IGN has since changed their article.

but seriously.. who actually gives a fuck about PS3 anyway. Even more, you already fail if you buy TF2 for a console.

Who gives a fuck? I'm not buying these god damn things. They remove the ads, I might reconsider.

When it comes to ads, they are constantly present and therefore deserve to be constantly complained about.

When you just settle in and 'get used to them', without complaining anymore, that's when they work. Name recognition, subliminal reflex, etc. That's the whole point of advertising in the first place.

Which is why those who truly are against the ads aren't going to stop bringing it up time and time again on anything Valve does. Don't ever let Valve live it down.

If 3 months after release of Episode 2, TF2, and Portal, once sales start slacking off, they put in ads, AFTER everyone's bought the games, don't say we didn't warn you.

I would imagine they'd sooner fill their goldsrc games with advertisements than their Source games. If DoD gets ads, most people will just live with it and those that can't but love the game will probably move to DoD:S. Either way, VALVe wins. However, if they put ads into TF2 within the first year or two of release, that will hamper continued sales of the game and discourage future purchases of their software.

Something like TFC, on the other hand... well, I don't think that's a large enough community to really benefit VALVe much by inserting ads, but it really wouldn't be difficult for them to do once they're ready to put pressure on that group to purchase their shiny new TF2 packages.

Really, I don't see the mainstream Source games getting ads too soon. I'm not saying ever, I'm just saying not soon. However, I definitely could see several Source mods getting advertising inserted, with part of the money going to the actual developers, and VALVe taking their cut of the profit as well.

On topic, however... why all the naysayers that claim it will be delayed again? I mean, come on... what about TF2 implies continued delays?

It's not TF2 that implies delays, it's Valve that implies them.

I didn't give much of a damn about the 360 either, until it you know, got games I wanted to play.

PS3 has yet to achieve that. I'll probably buy one once the next big FF comes out, and maybe for the next Tekken, but as it stands at the moment, there's just no reason for anyone to buy one (as far as I care).

And I resent being laballed as 'fanboy console nub'. I've got multiple consoles from basically everyone, and have no bias to any of them. I just happen to play whatever has the most appealing games at the time (which at the moment, is clearly not the PS3).

My comment was farcical... TF2 remains the most delayed game in the known universe, with Duke Nukem Forever trailing closely behind. Not that I expect DNF to ever see store shelves, but it's a good reference point.

As far as the whole console thing goes... let's not start that argument all over again. It's ages-old and makes about as much sense as an argument over whether chocolate or vanilla is better.

Is it asking too much to hope that someday people will respect preference?
