    Steam Surpasses 13 Million Accounts

In a press release just issued by Valve, it appears as though Steam accounts have been created over 13,000,000 (13 million) times world-wide.
"We've approached the development of Steam the same way we treat our online games; we release something we've tested, we internalize the feedback, and then we release new features and functionality based upon the feedback received," says Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "In Steam's case, we have millions of customers who are gamers and dozens of customers who are developers and publishers. In the past year, we've added over 100 new titles from third parties, grown to over 13 million active accounts, and introduced new features such as Guest Passes and Free Weekends. This growth has taught us a lot and inspired many additional features and services that we'll be releasing later this year."
How many of the accounts are second (or third, fourth, fifth, etc...) accounts created by those banned for cheating? Look for even more games this year from even more top tier game developers.

    Steamids hit 15,000,000 recently.

    Why does this say 13?

    Oh, ACTIVE accounts.

Release something they've tested? Um... I've been noticing a lot of things released were mostly broken... I think VALVe needs more computers under different configurations to actually keep the claim that they test things. I suppose one could argue it's the player's software configuration that is at fault though... Well congratulations to VALVe for having a lot of registered and active accounts I guess.

You have to realize how many different hardware combos there really are out there, and testing on each of them is nearly impossible.

I think the ability (or potential) of steam to force all users to have the same up to date drivers is probably its greatest feature, especially from a developer standpoint.

Not necessarily a good idea given how some older drivers may actually increase performance for some persons in some games.

                Newer =/= better

                    DIE STEAM DIE!!!

But seriously, though there is a LOT to not like about steam, it is a very impressive system and does bring a lot to gamers (don't want to list all here).

Though to my knowledge, playing CS/CSS against bots/on a LAN in offline mode isn't possible... seams unfair...

About the "broken", they obviously do test, probably better than some major software (OS?? hint hint!!) producers... But like others have said, with the amount of possible configs out there...

Things like DWP do work TECHNICALLY, it's the game play implications that are broken...

To conclude : My feelings : steam still needs work!!

Ummm... yes it is... that's kinda what offline mode is there for.... :)

Steam and the games on Steam are two completely different things.

Personally I have grown to love Steam.

From this point on in your post, nothing you say is relevant to Steam.
