    Lost Planet Demo on Steam

There's been no news announced yet, and no real fanfare, but it seems as though the Lost Planet demo is now available on Steam.

The demo on Steam does make use of the promised DirectX 10 effects set to be included in the PC version of the game. The full game will be released June 26, 2007.

Even though it says: A version of the Lost Planet Demo that takes advantage of DirectX® 10 is available for Windows Vista users?

I guess I'm missing something. I said it makes use of DX10, and to have DX10 you need Vista.

it's a shame valve didn't put the dx9 demo on there as well considering more people still use xp than vista

I'm hearing of huge problems with NVIdia 8800s, UNTIL the latest beta drivers are installed.

They did. The default demo on the Steam Games page is the DX9 XP compatible one, but the page has a different link to the DX10 version.

The demo is available for BOTH DX9 and 10.

The game... it was just amazing. But, I just hate "timed" games. I think at least the demo is too hard. You can't really explore or anything, because the energy bar is constantly decreasing, and you can only refill it in these small stations, and one station can be used only once. (Of course the coldness is a big part of it, but it is just simply too challenging to be any fun, and I'm not an FPS noob.)

Too bad they ruined the game experience with this. The energy bar should at least decrease very slowly. And yes, this game requires a pretty beefy computer.

I agree, timed games are just lame.

Or games where they give you the best weapon ever, but with only 1 round of ammo.

This demo is filled with a shitload of bugs, alot of files are missing, you'll have to download them manually if anything pops up as an error.

I tried the demo out.. it has great graphics, but the game play is pretty mediocre at best.

Didn't The Thing have some sort of exposure meter? If so it was relatively reasonable. At any rate, if the game's any good someone will write a trainer for it removing the timed element, which, I agree, always kills a game's enjoyment.

I'll never understand how or why so many talented people can spend so much time creating wondrous worlds to explore only to herd you through a predetermined path at a rate so fast you have no time to stop and simply appreciate them.

Say, why not throw in complete darkness and a player character too stupid to tape a flashlight to his weapon?
