    Source Engine Beta Updated

The BETA for the Source engine, the one that started back in April, is still underway. Tonight saw another significant release for the BETA that is detailed below.
Updates to the Source Dedicated Server, Source Engine, Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch have been released as a Beta. To receive these updates run Steam or the hldsupdatetool with the command "-beta srcds0407".
      Changes and Additions

    • Added sv_pure 2. When set, then pure_server_whitelist.txt is ignored and all content files must come from Steam

    • Changed ent_fire to only be useable from the host client on a listen server

    • Changed soundscape_flush to only be useable from the dedicated server console or the listen server host

    • Added sv_allow_wait_command. If set to 0, then clients can't use "wait"

    • Added sv_allow_color_correction. If set to 0, then clients can't use mat_colorcorrection

    • Fixed player count bugs in serverbrowser

    • Added "findflags" console command, which can list all cvars with a specified flag

    • Fixed a bug with sv_minrate and sv_maxrate not applying properly on the client
[break="new commands added to cheat protection"]

    Source Engine Beta Updated

Update #2: A small update was released that addressed the net_graph crash issue.

An update to the currently ongoing Source engine BETA was released tonight. Still unsure on how to participate? Simply add "-beta srcds0407" (without the quotes) to the end of your Steam shortcut command line. See this handy image for about what the shortcut should look like.

Here is the list of changes, including added cheat protection and a DirectX 8 flashbang exploit fix.
    • Fixed a server performance problem with queued packets

    • Fixed a Counter-Strike: Source flashbang exploit in dxlevel 80

    • Game DLLs export ServerGameClients003 for backwards compatibility for plugins

    • Only allows mat_picmip to be set to 0, 1, or 2 when in multiplayer and sv_cheats=0

    • Cheat-protected snd_foliage_db_loss. Could be used to turn off ambient sounds in Counter-Strike: Source

    • Fixed a crash when mashing the ~ key on disconnect

    • Fixed a crash with certain materials being blocked from reloading due to sv_pure > 0

    • Fixed bug with audio files of different formats overriding the files in Steam where it would use the original audio file's sample rate/format information after pure server rules forced it to load a different file

As a client, how do I try the beta out? Just find a server that's running it?

Your "Target" line on your STEAM shortcut should look something like this:

        "D:\Games\Steam\steam.exe" -beta srcds0407

That is a direct copy and paste of mine. Your drive and such may differ.

          Cheat protected r_modellodscale?

lol. I didn't notice any difference when messing around with random values. I just know I set to 1.0 in my autoexec.

I'm looking forward to sv_pure coming out of beta. No more noflash, transparent textures, etc worries -- That, combined with CAL ACS should be plenty to keep illegitimate 12 year olds at bay.

Yay for finally getting a bug fix.

Boo for the fix being such an irrelevant one.

Most leagues don't allow dxlevel 80 don't they? I thought 81 was as low as you could go, legally.

I heard that this happened everytime Gabe slightly tapped the ~ key.

Setting DX level to 70 practically negates the effects of flashes completely anyway. They work like they do in 1.6 which is absolutely not how they work in normal CS:S. That always bothered me that people who sacrifice graphics get an improvement other than fps.

As for leagues, I'd think 'pure mode' would be good for leagues, but I wouldn't know, I don't play in leagues.

pure mode will likely be universally used by leagues once its out

dxlevel70 is not allowed by any leagues (and blocked by zblock)

You'd probably be better off emailing Alfred directly about this. All bug reports should be sent to Alfred Reynolds.

Oh goodie, I'll e-mail him about that bug where with DWP on, you spend all your money on a vesthelm you shouldn't be able to afford in the first place.

That bug always bothered me most.
