Glad I didn't make a map of my school. Police would have found my decorative katanas and airsoft guns and put me to death for terrorism.

Oh, and remember thompson's comments on national news about how Counter-Strike trains people to kill? That's probably the only reason his parents turned him in. Dumbass, brainwashed, ignorant people who believe anything they are told.

Is it weird the only thing that seemed odd to me in that article was Zip's trying to stick in the fact he's getting married at the end?

No reason to do that when I've made the announcement here already:

Maybe we should evacuate the middle east because of de_dust.

                Oh wait...lol :P

Police have no authority to force him to remove CS from his computer. Or the map.
Agreed... the fact they felt they could really scares me. I'm not saying it's the Gestapo yet, but if we individually and collectively allow the police to tell us to do anything they feel, how long will it take?
Also, his own parents turned him in? What great parents.
I got the impression from the article that it was not his own parents, but rather parents of some of his friends who were also playing the map. I could be wrong on this point, but that's the impression I got as I read this. Given that the mom was in support of her son against the school district, it would imply that she's not the type to call the district and inform them when she could just talk to him at home.

WON'T ANYONE LEARN!!! Everyone should've known that those two freaks from Columbine screwed up making maps on schools- so just don't do it, you won't get in trouble then...

Well, it's almost your fault if your doing this now because of all the stuff that has happened. So to avoid this..make alterations to the map...dont make the school to a T, or just avoid school maps period.
These two comments also scare me a lot. I couldn't disagree more with this perspective. The past several years, I've seen a lot of freedoms start to disappear, starting with things Janet Reno was doing and continued by things like the Patriot Act and Homeland Security in general. Our forefathers made the 1st amendment to the constitution very deliberately to protect our freedom of speech.

I may not like all of the ways this has been interpreted to protect various acts that I find offensive and/or disturbing, but the point remains that we have to allow such things if we want to be truly free. The moment you say "this kind of free speech is okay, but you can't say these things" is the moment you change freedom to selective freedom for popular ideas -- a point at which you are no longer truly free. Saying "you should have known not to express yourself like that" is conceding to that censorship, and if you allow it with one thing, then there's nothing stopping it from continuing until things you hold very dearly are no longer allowed.

I'm seriously afraid that our rights as citizens are slowly being taken away, amid all these fears of "terrorism." I understand to sometimes be worried about real threats, but this?
                  I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for the links, I downloaded it and will be taking a look at it as time permits. I may not have any particular interest in playing a map of some random high school, but I do have an interest in protecting the rights of anyone to make and play such a map, or any other creative work they see fit to craft.

I stand disgusted by the actions of the FBISD on this one, and hope to see this decision overturned, though I know the odds of that happening are getting smaller and smaller as we allow our fears to destroy our freedoms.

Frankly more people on here give half a damn about that than anything related to CS bar the occasional big story like this, so no, it's not that weird.

If you somehow found a link to the map that includes the missing wad, by all means let me know. I wanted to include a local mirror to the map but the missing wad renders the map unplayable.

He only did it because I linked him then went, "LOL ARE YOU GOING TO CREDIT ME?"

I didn't think he would. xD

Anyways, on topic, I find it kind of funny (in an odd sort of way) that this kid is in quite a bit of trouble for a map based on his school when so many people, including on other sites, readily admit that they've made maps of their schools, their homes, and their offices. To be honest, I think this was mostly motivated by the recent tragedy at VA Tech, and parents freaking out over a video game map.. but then again, as we all know, video games produce killers.
