Rumor: AMD/ATI and Valve Bundle Deal

Remember the fun times that came about when Valve bundled voucher coupons in with the ATI Radeon video cards? I certainly remember that. In fact, it almost prompted me to buy an ATI card at the time. Well, if an article at the Inquirer is anything to be believed, the voucher may be making a comeback.



So for those who skimmed past the headline, file this news post under "rumor" until something more concrete is known. The Inquirer has a rather lengthy news piece on the supposed leaked specs of the upcoming ATI/AMD video card, the Radeon HD2900XT. Near the end of the article is this little tidbit.

To boot, the company decided to team up with Valve and offer a free bundle featuring a couple of upcoming hit titles. It is up to the partners to decide how the game will be bundled, but this will be marked as Return of The Coupon, if you remember the Radeon 9800XT launch and the alleged code-leak in Half Life 2 development, which was marked by a year delay.

Truth? Fiction? Nobody knows for sure just yet, but hopefully we'll hear something soon.

I just replaced my 9800xt that I bought for that very reason. So I could hold on to that coupon for well over a year before the game came out. I remember it well, taped to my monitor, teasing me. Now there is a faint rectangular shadow in the place it used to live. I miss you coupon!

I miss my coupon also, lost it in the draws depths ~_~. Would be a good deal if they did this again and maybe released it on time, HAHA.

Those coupons shipped with the 9600xt also, cause thats what I bought and got the coupon, which I had in the graphics card box, all alone, for a year
