Well, finally Valve may be getting what they deserve, greedy bastards
So them being profitable, helping the economy, and just generally supporting capitalism, is bad to you?

Capitalism itself is screwy. How you get the money doesn't matter as long as you get the money. You can do the most unscrupulous, unethical, immoral things, and if you get out of it with more money, you get rewarded for your actions.

But valve is not evil they make great games, they don't deserve to get screwed at all. I'm sick of people bashing valve all the time, they aren't nearly as inept as numerous other game design company's. Valve actually cares about their customers, they don't fuck them on a regular basis like other company's do.

Just on a random basis? At least that's what some people believe. I really don't care either way honestly. If they make some change, I adapt. It's their game, I just play it.

I haven't played 1.6 since the ads were put in. You can't look at that whole situation and walk away from it with any clear sense that VALVe cares the slightest bit about their customers' wants; you rather get a much clearer picture that they want to make as much money as possible off of them, using any means legally available.

Aside from the notorious EA/Dice combo, I can't think of another major company in this business that is as famous for screwing their customers over. The sad part of it is that Cliffe and Gooseman created such an addictive formula that we all come back like whores for sloppy seconds no matter how we're treated by VALVe.

That's not to say that VALVe has done nothing but wrong -- CS has been supported far longer than any other game of its generation, and we all enjoyed an arguably better game as a result. That said, one can argue easily that this was more due to Counter-Strike's continued financial benefits to the company than any altruistic aspirations. With CS1.6 sales dropping off, we see a lack of continued support and instead this new means of milking the remaining community for all it's worth.

Thortok really touched on the core issue, however. Capitalism is all about making money, not about kindness or doing something for motivations other than personal gain.

Anyway, love them or hate them, you can't deny that VALVe makes some great games while simultaneously producing some of the most wretchedly bitter and vengeful consumers (paying or not) I've ever come across.

The particle demo files were legit, and they are quite interesting. Very cool things you can do with them.
