I don't think those comments really reflect well on the community we have here.
I don't think a single one of us condones this mans actions.
The problem is that most of America is totally disenfranchised with reality, be it through the influence of movies or mainstream media....
If counter-strike etc are such big influences, then why isn't everyone over here in Europe shooting each other to death ? Exactly........
It's like violent video games are the new thing to blame these tragedies on, just like people tried to pin the columbine shootings to marilyn manson.
Did Doom, possibly one of the goriest videogames to grace our consoles spawn a generation of bloodthirsty killers ?
So many questions have to be answered outside the realm of the computer gaming industry rather than placing the blame on something that stands defenseless then moving on as quickly as possible.
This was not the stuff of videogames, it was a crime of passion, so where are all the people trying to ban people loving each other ? Hmmm ? Yeah, let's just blame the defenceless video game community and tar us all with the same fucking brush once again. People like Dr.Phil make me sick, they don't even want to understand the people who play these games, they just want to avoid telling the real truth that they live in a country where everything has to be as grandiose as possible.
American culture is the problem here.
(Don't take this the wrong way. I love the American people for the good that they bring to the rest of the world.)Comment

This would explain why the UK was so successful in stopping violence by banning guns, it's the damn Americans and their dreams.

Wow... Some of these comments I read are just demeaning to the whole thing. I guess the community doesn't give a flying crap and thinks it funny that people died and once again Counterstrike is blamed... Maybe if those who think its funny to say he went 32-1 in a public server and other bullshit like that had been there and or knew someone you might think different, before you comment something stupid think about hope it will reflect on you.DaRk-AnGeL wrote..
I fully agree with you, American culture is some pretty screwed up stuff. But here is something, if we have so many guns where are those people who protect us when we need them?

I was being facetious, people are suggesting violent crime is spiraling out of control before the advent of video games, which is not only unfounded, but untrue.
What about the mafia and gangsters before video games? Doesn't that count as violence in society? That is just my thought on your comment.DaRk-AnGeL wrote..
One might suggest there was no passion, as a sociopath failed to empathize with murdering a bunch of kids.

And here is some reason why we probably get blamed as a community of gamers for this bullshit is because people think its funny when others die and can relate it to a score in a game. Get a life honestly people, I'm not trying to be a dick to anyone, but trueful pull your heads from your butts and thing about what you say before you post.
These 32-1 comments make me sick. He shot 32 people before shooting himself. That would bring his score down to 31-1 you fucks.

I heard he drank energy drinks :O omg energy drinks cause violence. Enough with blaming video games. Look at the numbers, Sixty-nine percent of American heads of households play computer and video games. For pc games Forty-four percent of most frequent game players are over 35 years old. Hell the avg video gamer is 33 years old and has played games for 12 years. This page directly addresses games and violence http://theesa.com/facts/third_party.php#violence (poke around theesa.com they have allot of information.appended @ [time="1176925198"]
Another thing to look at is if video games are so bad , why do video game sales go up and youth crime goes down every year.Comment

Point 1, let's not bring my other posts into play here, I have a right to my own opinion and play devils advocate most of the time, while opening up a conversation for healthy debate. Whether or not you see this as idiotic is for you to decide (personally I think you just want to smack talk about me for whatever reason).
This would explain why the UK was so successful in stopping violence by banning guns, it's the damn Americans and their dreams.
You've said many, many stupid things here, but that was the dumbest thing I've ever read.
Point 2, The UK as a whole is not as immersed in the somewhat melodramatic culture that something is out to get you, so you should have a gun to defend yourself (yes I am aware you also use firearms for 'leisure' purposes too). That is the point that was being made about your culture, it is full of hype, drama, aggression and fear and this plays a huge part in defining what sort of society you live in.
Sure if you didn't have guns in America a hell of a lot of people wouldn't die, but you would surely find something else to kill each other day after day with because of the society that you live in.Comment

Dude, are you reading the Osama Bin Laden "Guide to the United States of America" 9/11 edition? I have never in my life thought that something or someone is out to get me. I don't know where you get the "hype, drama, aggression, and fear" that plays into our lives.

How old are you? Yes it matters.. and have you ever lived in the United States for more than a year?
I wish you knew how ignorant and arrogant that you sound right now.Comment

Our culture isn't represented by the american news media. Our news is embarrassing, they try to create this whole culture of fear and that may be good for ratings but it doesn't represent what the typical american cares about.

1. Whatever joke you are coining about Osama Bin Laden is totally unrelated, I never once likened your country to some terrorist fearing place where you shoot every person wearing a turban did I ?

2. The hype, drama, aggression and fear that I speak of are commonplace in every single thing I have ever seen come out of America, be it through the mainstream media or small news companies. Maybe the UK is just a pretty dull place, or maybe America likes to ham everything up to such an extent that it supercedes anything outside its borders.
3. I'm 21.
4. I have never lived in America
Maybe you are the one who is so fucking arrogant that he can't see what his own culture looks like because he knows nothing of other cultures around the world. Pretty typical. Countless American authors have spoken about this consumeristic culture of fear that the American population has, I use the word fear loosely, be it fear of terrorists, people who want to rob or rape you, home security, gangs etc etc etc.
Or maybe it's all just the fault of the media or the suggestions from the media (who do a really shit job by the way).Comment
