Black Mesa Honored

In last week's Steam news update a little recognition was given to the creators of the upcoming Half-Life 2 mod, Black Mesa, for being voted 2007's most anticipated mod.

New to Steam this week is the release of the Painkiller Gold Edition. This package includes the original game along with the Battle Out of Hell expansion pack. The entire package is available for $17.95, down from $19.95 until the end of this month.



Congratulations to the Black Mesa for Half-Life 2 MOD team for picking up the Most Anticipated MOD Award for the coming year from Mod DB. Over 80,000 votes were cast for MODs built for a number of different games, and they have been crowned this year's most wanted. More information on this ambitious project to recreate Half-Life 1 from scratch in the Source engine is available on their site. We're as eager to play it here as everyone else.



We're also offering a discount on one of the first third-party games to ever be released on Steam, Rag Doll Kung Fu can be yours for just $4.95 if you buy it before February 8th.

I'm really looking forward to the Black Mesa release. The team released the teasingest of teaser trailers to show off a bit of their handiwork. Very impressive.

Maybe next week's update will tell us that they are planning on fixing the "you don't own this game" bug....caused at least 1 cancelled match for my team this week, and kicked pretty much every player I know at some point or other.



Oh and maybe fix the Steam forums so that I can login and help them fix it the above issue. Perhaps fix the pipe so that pages don't take 2 minutes to load. Oh and fix the login so that it recognises my account. Then after that, fix the "retrieve password" page so that it recognises at least 1 of my 3 account email addresses :)

Yes, I'm also really excited about the upcoming Black Mesa. Maybe the game will capture and awaken the good old Half-Life feeling again. I will never forget the feeling I had back then, when the soldiers started killing the scientists on my first play-through of the game...

Black Mesa is going to be amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I honestly think Valve is going to sell it over Steam at some point.

Valve's master plan is coming into effect. Eventually they will simply build an engine, exclusively for modding. lol, the community will make the new games!

I'm really looking forward to Black Mesa Source, and imo they should consider working together with ppl at valve to take it to the next lvl (we all know valve can work with 100 projects at the same time). and ps. i wouldnt mind paying em a little sum...

To the current owners of HL: Source, here's a re-release.

IE: Black Mesa becomes the new HL: Source and those who already own it get it for free. Assuming they opt to try and market it. -cough-

Valve should also give a deal on licensing out the engine since it's purely promotional to their company.
