    "The Crossing" Premiere

Not just content with wow'ing the world with their announcement of Left 4 Dead, the Valve and Arkane crews have apparently been hard at work on not one, but two new additional games. One is completely unknown right now, but the other makes its debut courtesy of 1UP.com.

Without further delay, feel free to scope out the video for The Crossing. The first teaser trailer begins a little over halfway through the video. CrossPlayer? Fusion of single-player and multi-player with the possibility of inventing an entirely new genre of gaming? Interest = majorly piqued.

My impression is that the game will be able to seamlessly jump between a single and multiplayer experience, that is not making the game experience be bound to a one or two people story mission... something where other players can jump in and out of whenever they want, and take on any role they want.

Honestly, it's either a single player game, or a multiplayer game. It's binary...either multiple people play, or they don't.

The only way to work it out is that either it's only multiplayer some of the time, or only single player some of the time.

What would be really fun is if it was single player, and then certain points in the story are multiplayer, and then everyone who's at that point in the story gets to participate with other people... Like, you're doing single player, then you come to a town square where you have to assassinate another target, and it turns out that target is another player who thinks he's still in the single player part because he's really doing something else with HIS storyline, but is about to get shot at, or something.

Like, you think it's just another boss fight, but it turns out the 'boss' is another player doing his own thing for his own reasons.

If you mix PvP with the elements and story of a single player adventure...as in, something happens, win or lose, and then you go on with the story, instead of playing the same storyless 'level' over and over, that would be great.

I dunno. Interest piqued, but I also don't think it's going to be THAT original.

Sounds good, except for this part:

So now you'll have random myg0tish people ruining your single player experience too. great idea.

need for speed: carbon has some feature like this; In the 'challenge series' single player part you are able to invite four real players into the 8 player races. It's pretty interesting that way. But that is just completing goals together, I have no idea how will they make random online players fit in single player scenes.

Sounds like it's just co-op. Looks good nonetheless...

Sven co-op did this a long time ago, as did the map 'hunted' on team fortress.

                    This isn't anything new.

Valve games are pretty good at breaking, though.
