Well -I'm- pretty sure that is one method that would work. Of course you wont bypass the scoreboard ads like someone mentioned, but de_dust2_noads would be treated as a custom map, and if they can't inject ads into custom maps, then all is well. If my mapping memory serves me, they would need to do more than just change dust_wall_a texture to one with an ad, and so it would work. Think the ol' map "de_aztec_15" or something like that. It was the 1.5 aztec rescued by people using this same method when they didn't like the new aztec.

Yeah they are only good at making one of the most enjoyable FPS games ever and a sequel almost as good.



For christ sake CS is great, they can only blame themselves for not taking advantage of it's popularity. CS:CZ was a nightmare, I mean what was there 3 different developers? CS source is a failure (them finally realizing it and making it different is a good step I think, but thats not going to take anyone away from the 1.6 pool).



If they want to make money of the 1.6 players they really need to dedicate allot of resources to making a sequel worthy of including the name Counter-Strike. A CS 2 would be the only way to move gamers from 1.6, CS source is not what I'm talking about either (a poor attempt to move 1.6 to a new engine), I'm talking about making a point to develop a sequel to the best multiplayer game every made.



As for the ads just release a version of 1.6 at discount or for free, maybe include some additions to draw people in, maybe a few new maps or weapons exclusive to that version. But don't insult the people who paid for your game already, if you want to make more money off of us do it the way you did with HL and HL2, make a great new game.

Wouldn't it be nice if Valve got so much money from this that they would make CS a free game and we could all play without paying anything. We would just have to see ads here and there. Big deal, as long as I get a free game to play!

I already play CS for free, 'cause I shelled out my hard-earned cash for Half-Life, for CS:CZ, and then for the HL2 Silver pack. Anyone on here who is posting has already paid for CS once, if not several times... the only thing making it free would accomplish is removing the financial penalty for cheating -- something none of us want to see.
