  • CPL Enters Game Making Business

Just announced, the CPL is entering into the game creation realm with Severity. If a splash screen isn't enough to wet your appetite, have no fear gentle reader, as plenty of details are just around the corner.
Severity is a multiplayer first person shooter (FPS) focusing on team-versus-team and one-versus-one play modes. Additionally, the game offers unprecedented support for gamers worldwide playing in online and live competitions both casually and professionally.

“Severity will be the first videogame conceived from the ground up to ensure the growth and appeal of multiplayer game competitions worldwide, said Tom Mustaine, Director of Game Development at the CPL’s new studio.
You may remember Tom Mustaine from his time spent at Ritual Entertainment (of SiN fame). The game is being worked on in conjunction with id Software and as such, John Romero is rather excited. Play testing for select game community members is expected to begin near the end of 2007.

could be good.. At least for the competitive community, no way it would have noobed up elements, or shitty things that world against the competitive community. Like things that are not liked about CS:S.

An insanely twitch deathmatch shooter running on the Quake 3 engine? Don't we already, like, have Quake 3 for this?

If they're looking to dethrone CS 1.6 I think they're gonna have a major disappointment on their hands.

A game built entirely for the means of competative gaming is actually a good idea from both a marketting standpoint and a competative gaming standpoint. Most of the "competative gamers" will actually get a voice in development, and it opens up the potential for other games to be developed by the CPL for competative gaming (more cs-like games maybe?), while CS won't be "dethroned" just yet, there is plenty out there with potential, just their competative application isn't good enough, this opens a lot of doors for the CPL and competative gamers alike.

Awesome. It actually might be cool to see this on Steam, if Valve isn't allowed to mess with it. That way we could atleast have quick updates.

The CPL hasn't lost my trust yet.

If this game takes off, it could shake things up nicely.
