BTW the content servers are distributed networking, but the login/security check servers are located at Valve only, so this affects the world (aka those other countries most american dont know exist)

Well, i'm in Australia and last night (when the problem occured) we were able to log in still - However it was a hacker's paradise, with VAC disabled..., so we had a party

btw VAC isnt needed on the valve (hq) side of things to ban you, when the server detects a cheat it sends a message to valve of possible cheat detected



once steam, sends a confirmation back to the server of acknowledgement, steam then decides based on the packet information gathered by the server weather you were cheating,



if deamed cheating then, your account goes into blacklisting can take upto 3 days for blacklisting to block your account (set the status to unsafe or what ever the cheat signal is)



then you will still be able to log into steam, you just wont be able to play on any vac servers

yeah i know - but game servers are not VAC protected at the moment.



They have received time-outs on trying to connect to the Master Servers, so they automatically turn off VAC protection. Therefore it wont matter how the system works

That's odd...i was able to get to the login screen earlier (with the error that Steam can't connect to the servers), but now i can't even get there :\ I keep getting this stupid "debug assertion failed" message

i get a message saying that ur purchase is being processed blah blah blah ect.. and i didnt buy anyhting! lol! ><
