    Left 4 Dead

Turtle Rock Studios and Valve are teaming up once again to bring the world a brand new game, complete with Zombies. You know that you love 'em.
Turtle Rock Studios and Valve today announce Left 4 Dead, a co-operative multiplayer action game from the makers of Counter-Strike.

"By leveraging its industry-leading AI technology and years of Counter-Strike development experience, Turtle Rock is building upon the elements that make Counter-Strike successful and applying them to Left 4 Dead," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "What Counter-Strike did for multiplayer action games, Left 4 Dead will do for co-op games."

Left 4 Dead is built atop the most advanced version of the Source Engine and introduces version 2 of Turtle Rock's artificial intelligence (A.I.) technology.

Zombies? Check. Co-op gameplay? Check. A promise of new AI? Check. Sounds like nothing but a win-win situation in my book!

BTW: There's something that wasn't really announced in the press release. The fact that you can also choose to play as a Zombie in this game, working together with AI Zombies to go against the four co-op "human" players.

It can't get any better than this.

BTW2: There's also a 6 page spread in the Christmas 2006 issue of PC Gamer... complete with a lot of on-hands impressions and screenshots...

There are a bunch of co-op zombie mods for Source already in development. I wonder if this news will cause a few of the smaller ones to give up.

It would kind of be lame to be a zombie, unless you could be one of those zombies in ravenholm, you know, the ones that could climb walls and made that weird yell.

It'd be perfect for scaring the shit out of people.

They have quite a few different Zombies... and yes, even fast, wall climbing ones.

This is great news, I always enjoyed the little zombie mods for CS. I wonder if there will be any vehicles. Picture a jeep with 2 mounted machine guns or maybe just a car where the passengers can shoot out the windows, maybe you crash the car and now you have zombies over powering you AHHHHHHHHH this is exciting.

The AI in counter-Strike does not make it successful..... In both CZ OR Source or even HL2 for that matter. I'd hardly call their newest venture 'CSS' a success. So let's hope that they iron out the flaws that plague so many multiplayer games.

That being said, with the new technology and Valves new focus on AI in their products, this will hopefully be something good to look forward to.

I really enjoyed Sven co-op, so i'm sure something along those lines mixed with resident evil should be a blast if they nail the AI.

This sounds pretty awesome, even if zombies are starting to get old. CO-Op is a rarity in itself these days, so co-op anything is double plus good.

Zombies have a powerful universal appeal among men. I don't understand why I feel the pull but I own a copy of the Zombie Survival Guide and I know I'm not alone.

                      Looking forward to this game.

I think co-op went from being rare during the ps1/n64 era to starting to become common towards the end of the xbox life cycle (I guess it started with Halo at launch). Now there's a lot of co-op games. It's like the new trend. It's a good trend though. The one being made by the Hitman developers looks fucking awesome.
