    CEVO - Project Gamer

CEVO, the popular pay-to-play online league, announced a few days ago the January 2007 launch of a FREE league called Project Gamer.

The free league will pose a serious challenge to CAL, TWL, and others, as Project Gamer will feature prizes, an anti-cheat detection client and great customer support.
Project Gamer will operate alongside the pre-existing league events hosted by CEVO, rather than replace them. The popular pay-to-play leagues for Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike: Source, and Call of Duty 2, will continue on with the opening of registration for their next seasons in mid-December. Several major announcements are coming in the near future.

Project Gamer will greatly expand the reach of the CEVO brand and experience to thousands of more eSports players. In typical CEVO fashion, Project Gamer is a true innovation.

CEVO will officially launch Project Gamer in January 2007, starting with a Counter-Strike 1.6 league. Further details about Project Gamer will be announced in the coming weeks.
You can go on to read the full press release right over yonder!

Yeah, but I'm sure their anti-cheat program is just about like the new CAL ACS...

This sounds pretty good though - Only places I feel like paying to compete are at gaming lounges/LAN centers, not that I have just yet, though..And that's because you get your money's worth, and KNOW the other team/person isn't cheating..

I have never once answered any of this league's self-promotional statements until today. I just think the following advertisement needs a bit more analysis:

The free league will pose a serious challenge to CAL as it will offer:

      1. Prizes - Is that really a new idea? Razer CAL tournament http://caleague.com/razer/?p=prizes Verizon CAL tournament http://www.fiosgrand.com/?page=prizes Quake 3 Qualifier http://www.thecpl.com/league/?s=news&p=newsitem_1027

      2. Anti-Cheat - Part one of the new CAL desktop experience is ACS, which was released a few days ago and already has over 6,000 downloads http://www.thecpl.com/league/?s=news&p=newsitem_1043

      3. Support - CAL Live Support http://support.caleague.com Note: CAL has over 1/2 million people in a league that has been free since March 2001. Some people will not be happy, it's inevitable.

We welcome the competition, but we ask that you keep it REAL.

Haha. Shouldn't all leagues be free anyway ?

Where money is involved, most people forget where they come from and who their friends really are.

Terrible thing. Money, in these types of contexts.

From what I've heard, the anti-cheat is horrible. Why bother with CEVO? I'll stick with CAL, as they set the standard and pace of the competitive community. Not CEVO, who tags along and follows in their footsteps.

You're probably right, just a typo on his part. He wrote that in the submited news portion, and unless Zips has those archived somehow will never know the real answer!
