Episode 2, TF2, and Portal Slip ... Again

The folks over at CVG are the bearers of bad news today. Why is that? Well, if you couldn't tell from the headline above, then I'll say it again. Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal are delayed until Summer of 2007. Short, sweet, and to the point.
Valve's Doug Lombardi told CVG today that Half-Life 2: Episode Two's release has slipped from Q1 2007 back to summer 2007. Lombardi told us that the super developer is "now targeting summer 2007" for a release. This obviously affects Team Fortress 2 and Portal, which all form part of mouth-watering Episode Two package.

The title was originally expected to hit at the end of 2006, with Valve confirming back in August it had changed its mind and was instead gunning for Q1 2007, maybe February.

The reason for the further delay to summer 2007 hasn't been given, but we imagine it's simply the case of Episode Two, TF2 and Portal being massive, and requiring extra development time.
Even after the numerous delays, this never gets any easier, especially when Team Fortress 2 is involved. What ever happened to the ease and increased speed of development that was supposed to occur with episodic gaming?

Ah, bummer, but did anyone not see this coming?

I should come to expect at least a year delay from the original release date, but even if I do, the announcements still come as surprises to me.

I bet it's because the whole multi-threading deal, but they could get through it quicker than they think, and it may be pulled back up to early 2007 (Vista ring any bells?)

This is kind of good news as much as bad news for me though...Despite a later release date, it gives me time to save money for a multi-core system =D

Release TF2 standalone, in the next 5-10 days, or I will have the world destroyed, maybe the moon too.

What you should be saving money for is for a Geforce 8800GTX (well, in spring I'm sure there will be an 8900GTX that will be the same price as the 8800GTX). It can run Quake Wars, World Conflict, and Crysis at full quality. The Crysis demonstration didn't show combat though so who knows if it slows down during combat for it, but Quake Wars showed some crazy shit going on and no slow down.

Speaking of that, Spring has Supreme Commander and Quake Wars still right (there might be one other big game I'm missing but I don't think so)? Just play Company of Heroes for a few more months, then switch over to those games~

I figured this would happen, I assume this has to do with tf2 or portal not being able to hit the release. The hype of TF2 has died down (at least for me) without any new info coming after the 2 videos, I would hate to see any game rushed to finish so I don't mind a delay, i'm sure most of us were expecting this.

With it coming with Team Fortress 2 I'd say a shit load.

                          Summer 2007 means we'll see it sometime around Thanksgiving...or Christmas...of 2008.

Too bad we will be 1) Hit by a meteor or 2) Engaged in thermonuclear war, by then. Ah, the joys of episodic gaming :)
