    Steam's PayPal Preview

The often rumored inclusion of PayPal into Steam is starting to see the light of day. This preview is being conducted on a smaller scale, unlike previous large-scale BETA offerings.
This preview release of PayPal on Steam is not being made available by default to all users because initially we want the overall number of transactions to be small. This lets us hand inspect every transaction and lets our support team interact individually with each PayPal customer.

As with all Steam transactions, all purchases are final and are subject to the terms of the Steam Subscriber Agreement.

During the preview, the new PayPal features are available in the English language only. Other languages will be available later.
Users can give the preview a try by adding the following to your Steam executable command line: -paypal

The end result should look something like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -paypal
Please note there is a space after the final quote mark.

yup, this will go away quickly... paypall is the suck if you are a large corp. Ever wonder why so few of the MMORPG's use paypal? But all these other options exist? click and buy etc???

Go away quickly? Haha, try again. There have been a ton of people clamoring for PayPal to be an option since Steam came about. Why? Because a lot of people cannot obtain debit/credit cards in their country.

The problem is that fraud is going to be a serious problem, and PayPal's handling of fraud in the past with major companies has been less that stellar to say the least. Considering the lack of legal protection for the selling of non-corporeal goods and PayPal's well-documented awful handling of fraud cases and customer support, you have the reason why each transaction has to be hand-inspected.

edit: Unless PayPal has majorly revamped the way it handles fraud protection in the last 6 months, I don't think Valve will continue to support it for an extended amount of time, especially after the inevitable fraud cases start adding up. Hopefully another solution will present itself in the meantime, because Valve certainly seems genuine in the move to help customers with out credit cards.

Presumably the offender trying to buy the game with fake details can be traced back to an ip / steamaccount anyway ? :/

And? Doesn't mean it can't be used in other countries. When it's ready for the mass public release, other languages will be supported.
