Weekly Steam News Update - Oct 27

It's midnight on a wonderfully rainy weekend here, and lo and behold I'm bringing you guys the latest in Steam news updates! You guys really have it made, I tell you what.

We released what should be the final update to the Counter-Strike: Source weapon pricing beta. Assuming that everything runs well over the weekend, we'll be rolling this update out to everyone this coming Wednesday the 1st of November. All of the prices will start at their default values, with the first price correction happening Monday, November 6th.



Tripwire, the team behind Red Orchestra, is also working on a huge update that will be rolling out shortly. Some of the highlights are two brand new vehicles along with a new map. Fans of the game should get the update in the next week or so.

In other news, a gateway from another dimension (called Halloween) has opened here in the Valve office, today. The Zombine at left (SEE IMAGE HERE) is the least scary of all the creatures currently roaming our halls.

Looks like we'll be seeing the DWP soon in a non-BETA format. It should be interesting to see how well its received from everyone. There was actually a small update released tonight for the BETA. The Red Orchestra update is coming along nicely. The new map will certainly please both old and new alike.



Oh, and if you get a chance to go see The Departed, I highly suggest you drop everything and go. It will certainly be one of the better films you see this year.

It's been widely regarded by many that DWP is not ready to be released yet, (even by those in favor of DWP such as myself), due to a very faulty algorithm which will result in the eventual costs of a few $16K weapons and the majority being $1 weapons.



Valve has made no comments about changing the algorithm. Indeed, the glock went to $-476 and became unpurchaseable.



They release a small change, basically reseting the prices back to default, fix the ability to toggle DWP on/off, and release it? Either that or there's a whole lot missing from the patch notes.



C'mon Valve. This is nonsense. Fix it first before you release it. *eyeroll* That's what betas are FOR.

i think the patch that fixes that is on there servers, not on a patch we download, which is why they havent told us about it

this will be the biggest flop ever competitive cs world is laughing more than ever and pub randoms are even lol'ing its seriously the worst update to date by valve if anything its going to be harder for pub randoms to enter the competitive world than it has ever been before due to them not knowing which guns to by and getting owned by people who can actually aim, not that im saying pub randies cant aim but once all the spam guns become affordable new players will only know these guns and will be spam pros which sadly wont get them kills against top players and will just lead to more people crying hackers.

yeah dynamic weapon prices sound cool, but it wouldnt work in a game like CS. I mean it has had these static prices since the beginning, you can really only implement such a radical idea into a new computer game that has never had anything else to compare to. at least this update wont fizzle down and disappear as quickly as the riot shield?

Why do you think that? They've given us the option to turn it off, so I expect it to be widely disabled pretty quick.

Yeah, the Departed is a pretty badass movie. If you like that check out "Internal Affairs". Its a chineese film that The Departed was based on. Its subtitled, but definetly the best cop movie Ive ever seen.

Excuse me for sounding like a complete newb (Even though I'm not, I myself am a competitive player), asking seriously, but what defuse bug? By that, I mean narrow it down..There are a lot of defuse bugs..Can't defuse through a weapon on it, or defusing through an object (underside to above on train, etc)..Which bug?
