    HL1 Engine Updates Released

I did not think there would ever be another update to the Half-Life 1 engine. Boy, was I ever wrong. Granted, there's nothing exceptionally major updated here, aside from a few bug fixes that needed addressed.
    • Fixed crash when downloading content in game if IE7 was installed

    • Fixed viewdemo command not working correctly with some demos

    • Fixed getting duplicate friends message when in game
Restart Steam to grab this update, if you haven't already.

        BAD VALVE!

        STUPID VALVE!

SOURCE ENGINE, COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE! STUPID VALVE! STUPID!

"Oh I just can't wait for the HL1 update because I just play it SO much, not like that wildly popular but really needs a lot of work and a lot of updates game Counter-strike: Source..."

Valve is retarded and Gabe Newell is a dumbass. Lombardi too. Everyone else related to valve is as well. This update to an archaic engine just proves it.

jesus dude you need to go outside or get a girlfriend or something. yeah they're dumbasses because they're only working their asses off to make sure EVERYONE is happy. not EVERYONE has HL2 yet you stupid cock. People want stability in all the steam games and valve realises that. Pull your head out of your ass before you insult people who are far better at life than you.

If anything, it would make more sense for Valve to update 1.6 than to update CS:S at all given that even at this early in the morning (1:28AM here), there are 127,000 people playing 1.6, and a mere 17,000 playing Source. In the daytime, the difference in player counts between these two games becomes even larger (1.6 overshadows CS:S by a much larger margin). Now imagine how many more people would currently play 1.6 had Valve continued updates and provided fresh content for the game. Counter-Strike: Source is not even remotely as popular as you insinuate, and compared to last spring, it has become even less popular (whereas the player counts in 1.6 have continued to rise).

Even if Valve didn't have separate teams working on both engines, even then it would make much more sense for Half-Life 1 updates to take precedence over Counter-Strike: Source updates. If anything, the vast majority of Valve's customer base is being neglected.

I don't think you understand..... Counter-Strike on the HL1 engine is roughly 7 years old and pretty much all the bugs have been discovered and fixed, save for trivial gameplay bugs that 1.6 ers actually want left in the game.

Now, people who play source get mad because of a few reasons:

There is never any official communication from valve regarding the interp / interpolate issue that has blighted the game since its beta days. Most people who have played CSS have done so in a public enviroment on poor servers.

Try playing it on your own server, set up with a 100 ticrate from a decent company, you will see the difference immediately.

The thing is however, no one who ever played 1.6 has stayed around to do this, they have made their judgements about the game, which frankly I find is rather sad, because when you do get past the netcode issues, there is a whole different style of game waiting for you, one that can be easily picked up by new players and mastered by professionals alike.

However, one thing that bothers me is this, net settings are based around four commands. cl_interp, rate, cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate.

Most new players do not have a goddamn clue what these are let alone how to change them.

READ: PUT SOMETHING IN THAT MAKES CONNECTION SETTINGS CLEARER FOR NEW PLAYERS VALVE!

The default rates are something like 8000, 20, 20. With a default cl_interp of 0.1, favoring the lazy eyed slow players. No wonder the game feels like crap on servers without zblock installed.

So, what valve want to consider is this, the days of 56k are long gone, so the absolute minimum value that rate / cmdrate / updaterate should be 15000 / 50 / 50. Granted cmdrate should roughly match fps, so i've taken 50fps as an average. If you have less than that, you should probably upgrade that 5 year old pc.... Interp should range between 0.01 to 0.05 to eliminate the inconsistencies between players shooting each other.

Discuss...... There are so many ways in which the game could be taken to its next level. Right now, no one at valve seems to give a fuck.

i think its great valve is still supporting HL1 and issuing fixes, god forbid EA ever supports one of their games for more than a year and half. BF2 isnt even 2 years old and the final patch has already been released.. so no more support for BF2, which is a game with far more bugs and issues than probably all steam games combined.

                    Valve rocks, please stop crying.

...because half life 1 runs on any computer - hl2 still needs a fairly beefy computer.

so my Day of Defeat was broken for more than a year, because I had IE7 installed. this hurts.

The HL2 engine runs acceptably on a 9800 pro, 500 mb of ram and a 2ghz processor. :/

I would think a lot of people would have upgraded their systems by now...

What is IE7? I thought the only browser out there was Firefox?
