I felt the same way as you until the Core 2 series came out. As of now, I'll chose an Intel chip if I were to build a computer.

i'm upgrading early next year, p4 2.6, radeon 9800pro and 512mb ram in my current rig, u know u need to upgrade when u run FEAR at 800 res on a 22" monitor, oh the pixels was huge!!!

Actually, between other expenses and such, I've been wanting to upgrade for the past year and a half to two years now. On one hand, I'm glad I didn't get a chance to upgrade until around now, on the other hand it sucks having new games run horribly. Even Source games are giving me troubles now. The Dark Messiah demo was very harsh on my system when I had the same settings on it as I do for things like CSS or HL2: Ep1. Even the new technologies being added with Ep2/TF2/etc will hurt me plenty.
