There's a little game going by the name of Half-Life 2: Episode 2 in the works. Perhaps you've heard of it? The Computer Gaming World folks over at 1UP recently had a little Q&A session with Episode 2's project lead, David Speyrer.
CGW: Might Episode Two's seemingly more open-ended forest environment translate to more open-ended level navigation?A number of the probing issues are carefully side-stepped. This really isn't too surprising given how quiet Valve can be about some of their ongoing projects. Need I remind anybody about Team Fortress 2?
DS: The outdoor environments in Episode Two lead to more free-form combat scenarios that are different every time you play. We find that kind of variability correlates with fun combat scenarios that people want to play again and again. As for navigation, the larger environments can hide more secrets and rewards for players who venture off the beaten path.
