    Dark Messiah Demo Available

If you've been following the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic news, you already know that the Source powered game will be released later this year. You also already know that you can select a number of different roles including Warrior, Assassin, or Wizard. You may then already know that a demo was just released. If you knew none of that previously, you do now!

Here's a nice list of download locations. The file for the demo weighs in at a little over 1.4GB in size.Looks like I have some time to kill while my download finishes up. Taking a nap and dreaming of a Counter-Strike: Source update may be worth my while.

It has the Source engine and all custom content included. And it uses GCF files. Why this isn't being distributed on Steam (yet?), I've no idea. Just having the base Source content would have cut the download size down considerably.

Yeah why isn't this on STEAM?

I'll wait and see if they release it there.

Ooooooooouch... Settings that ran Episode 1 great, just kill my system in this game due to how much can be seen in some scenes. It defaulted me to bilinear filtering, no AA, and medium for the "GFX Detail" option they have there. Yet, it was defaulted to full HDR for me. I put it on 4xAA and 8xAF with everything on high. It was alright for a while until I neared an area with a very high area in the center that contained a lot of models and objects. Killed my FPS to the point I had to look at the ground to move above a few FPS. Meanwhile I can run 4xAA and 8xAF in Episode 1, everything on High without much issue at all.

So I went ahead and turned off AA, had AF at 4x (Like hell I'll use bilinear filtering), and the "GFX Detail" to medium. Ran a lot better then. A lot of action going on between melee attacks, magic attacks, swords, traps, daggers, kicking people off ledges (heh heh... so great).

Looks like it's time for a serious upgrade. This really pushes the Source engine.

              the gameplay is great but..

1500MB (2500 installed..) for a 1 minute action is just pathetic. The HL2 demo with two levels was around 700mb.

at least they could have included the giant fight since the map was in there...

edit: I just read that there is a trick to get that fight working: launch the game with the +map e3_l06_l09 parameter. And if you launch with -dev you get all the skills at full level.

I don't blame file sizes as much as I do internet not being able to keep up with the rest of technology. My DSL is the same speed it was 5 years ago and that's pathetic.
