Complexity Wins DirecTV's Championship Gaming Invitational

They sure did. Complexity, hot of their win at the Summer CPL just took 1st place and $50,000 in the CGI finals versus 3D! This tournament, which was filmed in a studio by DirecTV, introduced a new set of rules, which is designed to make the game faster, and more exciting to watch.
Simply put, the CGI rules made the game faster. Friday’s match between Team 3D and NiP (including half time breaks) lasted 20 minutes. The match between Complexity and Jax Money Crew lasted a mere 18 minutes. The actual average in-game match time was 16:02 minutes. According to GameSense, the average match from CPL Winter 2005 was 26:33 minutes while ESWC 2006 boasted 31:55 minutes of action, and both excluded overtime! Therefore the CGI format roughly cut the length of the matches in half.
So is their controversy & flaming over these new rules? Of course there is, Counter-Strike players traditionaly do not like change, and the new rules were a HUGE change. Will these new rules make their way into the Winter CPL? I guess only time will tell or maybe Angel Munoz will enlighten us in the comments section. What I do know that this is the first event ever which was filmed for national TV, and if you care about the community, then this is a very good thing. For those of you who have DirecTV, it will be airing on August 25-27th on channel 101. If you do not have DirecTV then check the comments section here with information on how to get it so you can watch this!

All complete match coverage on the DirecTV CGI tournament can, of course, be found on GotFrag's website. If you want to see how cool this tournament was set up for filming then check out this gallery. If anyone is old enough this might be a flashback to the Fred Savage movie The Wizard made way back in 1989!

The whole thing was crap. I was there. It was very hard to watch the matches because of how poorly they set up the spectator modes. It was all free look mode and they didn't show any first person modes at all. And of course, the rules were also a big problem. How can a big CS match have no pistal rounds? 7k as a money start isn't too interesting. And the shortened rounds were not cool at all.

Your crazy first off these were beta rules. Second the CPL would never use these rules. They incressed the rounds to 15 from 12 for a reason. It would be way better to go to CO rules than round based if you were really worried about time.

Sigh.... What a moron set of rules designed to make the game a fucking constant quick zerg fest for 18 rounds. Lets sex it up so people who know jack shit about cs can appreciate that every round is played super hyper fast with lots of weapons.

This sort of crap isn't what people want to see. They wanna see pistol strats, save rounds, long and sneaky tactics they wanna see the psyche behind the big teams, not some deathmatch shit.
