Gameplay vid would be nice, but I'm impressed with the current level of design and detail, kudos to Valve for keeping its development quiet too.

I wonder why Valve calls it "phong shading" as opposed to "per-pixel lighting." I don't think most non-programmers know what phong shading is, and it seems like per-pixel sounds more marketing friendly. Perhaps because no one knows what phong shading means, it ends up sounding more advanced.

          Ooh, phong shading, eh?

Can't wait. It's too bad we don't have it in CS Source yet.. :-|

Wait, wait, is this in-engine or CG? It looks like CG.
it's ALL in-engine. that's just how far the technology has come. these are just the idle animations and some fire animations of the various characters. this is probobly gonna be the most movie qualty game made yet.

Yeah, so far as I've known this and the Portal trailers have been all shot with in-game footage and then a post-process effect (Depth of field and motion blur) were applied afterwards (still in engine).

Mr. Walker (from a mail sent to Shacknews):
Almost all of the animations are game anims used while playing (scout run, hwguy firing, etc). The exception is the Spy. We don't have a disguise effect we're happy with yet, so we whipped up that animation to give new players an understanding of what the Spy class is about.

We still haven't decided how we'll use screenspace effects. It's more of a design issue than anything else.

              Robin.

If you look closely at the background, you can see that all the action is taking place on _2FORT_! Notice the wooden bridge and how it leads to the base with the two entrances on the bottom and the balcony up top.

I may have to buy a new computer just to run this shit. I wanted to get a new one for Ep.1, but held off because meh, it's just episode one, I can find the storyline anywhere.

My only complaints are with the character models: why is the sniper such a yee-haw redneck hick and why does the demolitions guy look like a retarded crack dealer? From the pictures, you can only see the white of his eye.

Yeah... with all of the new graphical technologies, and word they are working on a new physics engine, I need to upgrade sooner than later. Conroe is my CPU of choice no doubt now but I am waiting on the G80's to come out. Only thing holding me back now.

Used to be I was upgrading for games like UT2007, but now Source is certainly getting up there once more.

Didn't really tell you anything. It was basically just the from that other post. only they were shooting guns.

That looked really awesome, I love the new graphics style! Only thing I would complain about is that I'm pretty sure there'll be 'clones' of each model -- AKA, there'll be 10 HWguys running around loooking exactly the same. Perhaps different faces for each guy or they could cover up the faces with some kind of mask, like a balaclava mb? Whatever, it still should be fun

Well, there are probably going to be different colors for different teams.

                              Still too cartoon-y.

                              Fortress Forever ahoy.
